So due to work and other real life factors, I haven't been able to game regularly in a few months. I've been lurking on forums and doing my best to keep up-to-date on the latest developments and such, but I haven't actually played a game or spent any appreciable time at my LGS in quite a while. Having read all the horrible news on the interwebs lately, I fully expected my first trip back to actually game at the lgs in months to be quite scary. Triptide-beastpack-taudar-fateweaver-Revanant titans, etc etc. Much to my surprise, it was nothing like that at all. The group at that store has always been competitive, but fairly well balanced and with precious few actual WAAC players. Typically if anyone does want to use something crazy it's agreed to the week before and a special game is set up for it so people can still play with their expensive toys but in situations where we are all having fun.

So anyway, while the 40k world at large seems to be going quite mad lately, my LGS has continued on quite nicely as though nothing has happened. We've got 6th figured out to the point that everyone is happy with it and we have even put some of the supplements to good use. Having been gone a while, I just found the image of it quite funny. All these people calmly going on about their gaming business while, if you turn to the web, the 40k world is imploding and people are leaving in droves, etc etc. I realize you can ALWAYS find that sentiment, but it just seems to have reached a crescendo lately and I wanted to post that this doesn't seme to be the case with my group. I'm just wondering about the rest of you. If you take the internet out of it, what is REALLY happening in your areas? Are people really rage quiting with unusual frequency? Are you seeing multiple super-heavy units in every game? Or, are you seeing nothing really new at all?

Edit: I just googled ablutions and apparently it does not including dropping a duece. I should have looked it up early sorry for any confusion. - Baldsmug

Wait, what were we talking about again? Did I ever tell you about the time I gave you five bees for a quarter? That's what you'd say in those days, "give me five bees for a quarter", is what you'd say in those days. And you'd go down to the D&D shop, with an onion in your belt, 'cause that was the style of the time. So there I was in the D&D shop..."

I only play with a few old friends on the whole, but not a lot has changed since we started back in 5th. No fliers, no net lists and only one super-heavy (my knight, purely because it's cool).

Everything is exaggerated on t'internet, in real life I imagine people are a lot more content on the whole.

Yeah, agreed. I was just surprised recently to see even the 11th Copmany guys kind of going with the sentiment that if there was another game out there right now with as big a community, they would probably be switching to it. Really got me wondering if this might be theone actual time where sentiment on the internet and real life sentiment might actually be merging.

Here, people are switching over to other games. What were once purely 40k gaming nights are now spread between X-Wing, Flames, Firestorm Armada and so on.

In my group people just carry on playing whatever they played - there's no GW shaming, no hate, no whining, no mass leaving. If someone starts playing another game, it's not because they dropped 40k, it's mostly because they thought it was cool and wanted to try it out in addition to their 40k/WFB armies. That's how I started a Warmachine army and I'm somewhat inclined towards giving Dystopian Legions and Dystopian Wars a try if anyone in my area will be interested in those games(nothing worse than starting an army for a game noone plays in your group! ).

So while the sole focus shifts a bit from 40k (WFB is safe because of polish players' huge focus on ETC tournaments) and we have some people taking a break it's not because 40k is considered inferior or bad in any way - we just try out various products to make our tabletop days a bit more diverse just like buying various board games to try new stuff rather than move en masse over to another one and forget about the previous one.

Hell, we even have new 40k players lately and GW's products sell like hot cake at my FLGS, especially now after Dwarfs and Wood Elves when people start new armies just because they found the new models awesome(and both those armies look fantastic on table).
