Oh my god, the hours of my life I have wasted playing this on the Game Boy!

Definitely one of my favorite puzzle games on my NES, along with Doctor Mario. Hell, I still play it at work when it gets slow Never knew is was 30 years old, though.

Tetris on a Game Boy was a big part of my childhood. I can still hear the game's music and the sounds as those pea-soup colored blocks fell into place and formed lines. Damn good times.

I remember liking Tetris even more when my mom became hooked on it because it was one of the only video games she approved of and liked--until I had to fight her for play time on my Game Boy. That lady was good at Tetris too and was always blowing my high score out of the water.

Nope, I always wondered why russian sounding music was playing, but I never put two and two together.... probably also the reason I was never much good at tetris

It's the music from the Nutcracker Ballet by Tchaikovsky.

I just figured the game designers enjoyed the music and also didn't know they were Russian. Learn something new, I guess!

I also enjoyed Tetrisphere on the N64.

I seem to remember that there's a pretty good documentary about Tetris.

Admittedly, it seemed to be slightly biased and laid it on a bit thick suggesting that the games popularity helped contribute to the end of the Cold War. :p

I knew Tetris was Russian, however I didn't realize there was a political statement written into the game in the sense that it's impossible to beat the system you just hold out as long as you can before you are slowly crushed beneath the ever growing wall. There's no winning there is only pointless struggle then you die, so darkly poetic.
