Hey guys, just wanted see what your opinions were on this.

Most players use Pathfinders (which I find are too squishy in this Ignores Cover heavy meta) to provide Marker support. I've personally been using marker drones on Broadsides w/ Target Locks. The biggest problems I've been having are:

1. Out of range.
2. Dies from barrage
3. Not mobile enough.

Tetras can't really help #2, of course, but really excel in the other parts. Aside from that, they're cheap (cost of 3 marker drones), are skimmers, and have better BS w/ more Marker shots.

Is there something I'm missing, or are they a must-take?

Only downside to them as I see it is that a fair number of clubs, tourneys and players don't allow FW models.

If your group are fine with FW I would say go for it. I agree about Pathfinders being easy to kill, my regular Tau opponent always runs two squads and sits them in cover for a 4+. I can almost always get a speeder in with a heavy flamer to toast at least one squad early on, in fact I make it my main objective!

Oh yeah, my area is extremely cool with FW stuff. I'm not sure if its worth the points to give them Disruption Pods though (+1 cover). I know Blacksun Filters are useless, since they only have markers.

Try missilepod crisis suit teams. Theyre mobile, and if you add a buffmander theyre lethal and durable. Ive been having great success with it, in fact i cut the two drones i normally bought with the buffmander so i had 6 instead of 8, as they always hit (the reroll fail hits works on them too, not just the crisis suits...speaking of the buffmander benefits here) and odds are i wont be LoSing very many wounds until i get hurt a bit. Lost my buffmander once, and that was a freaky bad dice roll (4 1s out of 5....failed the FNP too). 8 lights on a single unit is kinda overkill lol, since that unit almost always buffs up either my Riptide or my Hammerhead depending on what it was i shot at and i tend to evaporate the unit.

It can be a little pricy, as the typical buffmander runs around 220pts (you COULD shave some points by removing some less useful upgrades, but not much and theyre still useful) but its just nasty. Spamming more S7 is always a good thing too lol.

I can testify that tetras are fantastic, played against them a good few times and they're probably the most realable source of markerlight sources I've seen. Plus the models are awesome.
