Hey guys, first post ^^ I've recently started Warmachine with some friends, and we've got a rules question, namely the difference between SPD increase and just a movement increase.

For example, the Ret Griffon can spend a focus to gain movement. On the other hand, the charge rules state that you only use your SPD + 3". Can you combine the two to charge further?

Thanks!

Well the difference is for things like running and the like. If I have a buff that gives me +2" movement on a SPD 4 model, I'm going to run 10". Base SPD 4 + 4 (for running) + 2 (for the movement increase). If the buff instead gave me +2 SPD, I would become base SPD 6, and therefore run 12. SPD 6 + SPD 6.

In your specific example, yes. The Griffon will end up with SPD + 3" + 2" (I think its 2" for the special rule, I forget). If you threw a SPD buff on there, you'd have SPD(+ buff) + 3" + 2" (from your special rule). You can keep adding new things to increase that distance, as long as they don't have the same name. For example, you could hit a target with Hunters Mark, increasing your movement when charging that model by 2". But you couldn't hit it with a different model's Hunters Mark and benefit from +2" movement from the first as well as +2" movement from the second, it would have no effect on charging distance.

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

Another difference is that movement bonii only count during your normal movement. Speed bonii count for your turn (so you can use it for Lightning Strike).
