I wouldn't count out Alpharius as nobody ever seems to be sure which one of them is actually him and he would probably just disguise himself as someone else so he could shoot you in the back....for the Emperor of course.

The Irish god Balor was a giant with one eye who could kill people simply by looking at them. I suspect that is the inspiration for that bit of fluff.
