Finished the first 4 grunts, a top view of the currently finished squad:

4 Bloodcrushers + 3 Heralds.

The front one has a spear and I had to disguise the very long stabilising pin with some foliage.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I also finished the Avatar featured a bit back:

I finished the last 4!

With that done I have 11 bloodcrushers. 8 normal grunts (with one as a musician) and 3 Heralds (one doubling as unit upgrade champion). I still need to get one more from Ebay to make a standard bearer (although the spear-toting bloodcrusher can be a banner bearer in a pinch).

The unit is quite big:

(getting dark..)

Let's hope it doesn't suffer the New Model Syndrome in my first tournament!

Next up:

which turns into:

One of the few units I've bought complete from GW itself (since it was one of the few metal ones left). I'm also snapping up older harpies from Ebay to make a 2nd unit.

Confessor Of Sins

Unfortunately my Furies contained the wrong wings! I'm left with 15 complete pairs and 10 right wings. E-mail off to GW and wait I guess!

Another month goes by and the tally is:
1 Skullcannon
8 bloodcrushers
3 Heralds on Juggernauts

Definitely slower! I blame the release of the Eldar codex.. GW can't do anything right!

Left to paint:
20 Furies of Khorne
another 20 Flesh Hounds

Edition Nurgle is coming closer! I also managed to snag some Gorkamorka Mutie Raiders. I'm going to use their steeds with some old metal plaguebearers as Nurgle Cavalry, aka Plague Drones. I don't like the idea of big flies but I do want me some cavalry!

Well, I started painting the 15 furies I can!
I start with:

Then just like all my other squads I try 2 colour schemes:

Bright red with red wash

Dark red with red wash

Eventually I'll have 10 of each.

Mini-Bloodthirsters for sure!

Made good progress on the first 10:

Got a mail back from GW they're sending me the replacement wings, so hopefully I can get the whole squad finished quickly.

Forgot to take a picture of the finished bases, but these are the first 10 furies done:

I also bought another display cabinet to house my growing demon army:

At this rate I'm not sure whether all my demons will fit...
Made in nl
Confessor Of Sins

I only display painted things

At the back (where you can't see) is a big closet that houses all the unpainted stuff.

I've painted about 30% of what I collected for my daemons I think.

Haven't had much time to paint so I slowly worked on cleaning/assembling/etc.. my 2nd pack of Flesh Hounds:

Still need to fill all the gaps and pin all the heads.

For an upcoming tournament I worked on a way to keep track of daemonic rewards and psychic powers:

Very cheap $1 magnetic white board and a whole lot of magnetic fridge words (also cheap). With a label printer and some time cutting/pasting them I will make a magnetic counter for each reward and psychic power. (Please ignore the typo on the paper, it's v1!)

Khorne first, then Nurgle. Tzeentch and Slaanesh are still in the future (well in boxes in the closet).

Some work done on a test for the Flesh Hounds:

I ran out of Blood Red so am using Evil Sunz Red. It's subtly different combined with the wash.

Nearly finished the first 10 hounds:

I quite like these models, I went for an old-skool colour scheme:

Working on the last 10 hounds and the last 5 furies now.

Hopefully I can finish them before I go away for my vacation. After that it's Nurgle time!

I also had fun at a tournament this weekend, doing pretty well with my all-Khorne list.
2 Bloodthirsters
2 Daemon Princes
1 Skullcannon
30 bloodletters
20 flesh hounds

One thing I've learned though.. even bloodthirsters hate Mindshackle Scarabs.

I also spent some time toying with my camera. I took a whole lot of pictures of my collection some time ago, but lighting was bad (inside on my gaming table) and with the flash firing it washed out a lot of detail/colour.

Still a lot I have to learn about photography.

Thanks, Tzeentch will be after I finish my Nurgle army, so it will be a while yet.

With that I'm finished with Khorne...

Well, not quite. I forgot I had to paint another musician/standard bearer for my Bloodletters. I also have another Herald on Juggernaut planned, but need to find another metal herald itself (I do have a spare Juggernaut). Ebay it is! I should be able to finish the musician/banner bearer today/tomorrow. Then it's Nurgle time-ah!

I got distracted while painting my last 2 bloodletters...Had it lying about primed and ready. Combination of a pin and magnets for the arm sockets. Also had to magnetise the weapons themselves to get all the options.

Some more work done:

By Khaine, so many gemstones!

And done:

I may put on some transfers (especially on the 'skirt' sections) or free-hand the Alaitoc sword+crescent moon. Also need to finish the other weapon options. Then after the break, it's back to daemons!

Done with the last bloodletters:

Just a little touch-up (these closeups always reveal too many imperfections...) and I have 4 squads of bloodletters finished (well 2 big ones that can split into 4).

=====================

With my vacation starting next saturday I decided to start Nurgle after that. In the meantime I had some stuff lying about. On the previous page I posted pictures of the Forgeworld stuff I'd bought (3 flyers). One has been painted already but the other 2 will receive attention this week.

Starting with the Voss Pattern Lightning, which I will use as an Avenger Strike Fighter:

To assist with its dual role I used a lot of magnets. First the air intake:

With the handily provided recessed area it was very easy to magnetise both the turbine fan and the bolt cannon:

The bolt cannon is made from a kit by Machinator (also on these forums I think) and he makes a very nice Fellblade conversion kit. Luckily he also sells the bits separately. The Vulcan Mega Bolter stand-ins he sells fit perfectly side by side:

Pinned together and with magnets they fit snugly.

The Lightning has 6 missiles but the Avenger only has 2 weapon mounts (apart from the Lascannons):

With this I can swap out all the missiles for autocannons, missile pods, etc..

(Missile pre-flattening of the metal bit)

(Autocannon with magnet)

Last but not least, FW provides a clear cupola again:

It came with a huge gate attached and the material is brittle so care is needed separating them. Only a little bubble on one of the edges, for the rest it was very clear.

Overall I was pleased with the quality of casting. Almost everything fit snugly. Only a small gap between the wings/hulls need to be filled:

Did most of the work on the hull/outside:

Just need to finish the weapon options (missiles, autocannons) and the pilot now.

This is how it compares to the original Avenger Strike Fighter:

Thanks, I think I'm improving slowly but steadily. My biggest bane is the need to finish things quickly so I can play with them!

Did some work on the pilot's seat and console:

Cheers. I've basically finished it now.
Replaced the bog standard Imperial Navy pilot with a Sister of course:

Once it all dries (especially the base) and I've coated it with varnish I'll post a last picture.

Next up: Eldar Phoenix Bomber

Well, it's all done now.

It can server 2 roles, first as an Avenger Strike Fighter:

And swapping the weapons/intake back to original, as a Voss Pattern Lightning:

Next up:

I was surprised how few parts these older forgeworld models have compared to the new ones. Apart from the pilots, you only have the engine exhaust, 4 small tail fins and the pulse laser. Unfortunately, this one didn't come with a flying stand adapter (really FW, you drop the ball there, you don't even mention on the website you get a new flying stand with the older flyers). So I had to make something myself.

I made a small flat box out of plasticard, filled it with green-stuff and stuck the flying stand end in it (liberally lubed with water) to make an impression. I then used 4 pins to attach the bit to the flyer, but leaving enough space so the pulse-laser can fit in between. Basically the same as my Nightwing earlier in this thread, but with more DIY!

Thanks,

I finished the Phoenix (a week of no work before I go on vacation has spurred me on to new heights of efficiency!)

Despite being an older FW model it still has a lot of details to paint. The downside is that the hull was one big piece of resin and it took a lot of soaking in hot water and careful bending to get the wings in shape. Making them 100% symmetrical was beyond me however. I also wish they'd made the pilot seats bigger. It's very cramped and especially the covers don't fit very well. It took a lot of shaving/fitting to get it right (and I did take off too much at a few corners..) The clear plastic canopies are horrible too. The resin gap where they were supposed to broke off during washing so I had to improvise...

In the last picture you can see the solution I had for the fact that these old models aren't built for the flying stand.

Since I still have today and tomorrow, I figured I'd get started on my plaguebearers after all.
I painted one as a test:

Was quite simple. Gretchin Green base, then washed with Anthonian Camoshade. High-lighted with Scorpion Green. Bone sections Rakarth Flesh, then Ushabti and high-lighted white. But I'm not sol, it looks a bit flat.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I brightened him up a little and started on the other 9 plaguebearers:

I love these models. While the wash dries I carefully clean the places it pools too much. I want a fairly noticeable shadow but now unsightly blotches of wash.

I think these guys came in like 15 or 20 different sculpts. I'm going to see if I have enough different ones to make a unit of 20 unique ones.

Hmm, that's an idea. I'll have to think up some way to make it realistic though.

Sadly I only found 15 different sculpts, so my units will have some duplication in them.

I'm planning 2 units of 20 each, with a separate command squad for each too. One unit + command in the above scheme.

The other will be in a contrasting, more sickly grey-ish theme.

Confessor Of Sins

Some further work done:

Did I mention I really like these sculpts? The wizened faces, the slightly comic expressions. The new plastic ones may be better technical sculpts and more 'horrific', but I always liked the more comic demons from yesteryear (and these ones are most definitely yesteryear).

Confessor Of Sins

I finished the first 20 Plaguebearers:

You can see the next 20 in the background. I'm still working on a different colour scheme for them.

Now working on the command squad:
