Well, I've traded away all of my 'nids in favor of vampire counts. I've found I like fantasy better than 40k, and so this thread is pretty much done now. Thank to everyone for the encouragement and support, the tips were great and it was fun learning how to paint! Now I get to paint ALL the zombies! Oh boy...

OP: I think I have a solution for you that will work very well with your color scheme. You're having trouble with yellow, which is very common since yellow can vex even the most experienced painters. The solution here is that you have to start with a light, sandy yellow-brown as a base coat over your yellow areas. Vomit Brown or Tau Light Ochre. That sandy yellowish brown is going to cover much better, so you won't get the smudges of blue showing through your yellows.

Paint your yellow-brown on the areas you want to be yellow. After that, you can drybrush your yellow over top of that for a much better result.

Or, an alternative solution would be to trade away all your nids. That works too.
