Back in the day I had two bi-metal 72 scale kits from the Dougram line. As unseen they were the Griffin and the Nighthawk, in the anime I believe they were the Roundfacer and the Dougram. The kits had plasic exterior armor and a metal frame. I don't know what I did with those, but man I wish I still had them. Lol they were $25 a piece back in the 80's and I thought they were so damn expensive!!

Those weren't model kits. They were part of Takara's Dual Model series of die-cast toys. As I recall, Dougram formed half of the line while the other half was VOTOMS stuff. There was actually a larger deluxe Dougram Dual Model that used magnets. There was also a Blockhead in the Dual Model line. It had clear armor along with the colored armor.

I like these, but what material/size is that?

I can guarantee that it's plastic. If it's anything like the Yamato Cosmo Fleet stuff I've got, I'd wager about 5" - 6" in length. But, since this one isn't blind boxed like the others, and it's a bit more expensive, it's possible that it may not be in scale with the rest and as such, it could be bigger. Possibly 7" - 8" at most would be my guess.

I have picked up a couple of the Kotobukiya Muv-Luv 1/144 kits. They aren't anything to turn your nose up over. They're actually pretty nice. And, if you're like me and space tends to be an issue, the smaller scale is just fine. There's actually a new kit coming out fairly soon. It'll be the Active Eagle, but it'll only be in 1/144 scale.

Also, my usual sources seem to be slipping. Bandai revealed a whole bunch of new Gundam kits recently.
Story info about the new Gundam Build Fighters series was released. The new show is set seven years after the previous one. The Gunpla Battles have come back, but they're now being done as three person team battles. The three main characters are all new. The male lead is Kamiki Sekai, a Gunpla Battle newbie as well as a transfer student/martial artist who looks suspiciously like Reiji. He'll be using the Build Burning Gundam, which appears to be based on several G Gundam Mobile Suits

The second male lead is Kosaka Yuuma (Kosaka China's younger brother) who uses the Lightning Gundam, which appears to be based on the Re-GZ and the REZEL

Lastly, there's the female lead and Gunpla Battle Club's President, Hoshino Fumina, who uses an original SD Gundam, the Winning Gundam

And yes, models have been shown already for all three, plus a BWS for the Lightning Gundam as well as a fourth kit, a variant of the Powered GM, the Powered GM Cardigan (or it could be Guardian, I'm not quite sure). The Powered GM also is already slated to have a weapon upgrade set, too.

And here's the kits of the Build Burning Gundam, Lightning Gundam, and the Lightning's BWS

There's also be reveals of several kits from G in Reconguista. Apparently it has been confirmed that the new show is indeed set within the same universe as the UC stuff. It is just set way far into the UC timeline's future after a new calendar has been adopted.. for whatever reason. I do hope that there's an actual reason for them deciding to set it in the UC universe.

Anyway, new kits, yeah?

Not the biggest pic, but from left to right are the G-Self, the Grimoire (which has a separating gimmick for some reason), the Montero (which is a character specific custom unit), and lastly, the red one is the G-Arcane, which apparently is classed as a Gundam and appears to have an L-Gaim Mk.II style transformation. If you click the pics, you can zoom in a bit.

Definitely similar. It looks like the legs fold up the same way for sure.

Interestingly, I notice that the G-Self and G-Arcane do not have the spherical cockpit like the Montero and the Grimoire.

That campaign isn't limited to HLJ, it should be any place that carries Gundam models.

Shamrock is looking nice. And at 4860, it's surprisingly affordable.

I'm not sure if anyone here is aware, but it seems that Bandai's 1/48 Ingram from the live action Patlabor series is out now. I know Pacific will be very interested in getting his hands on one.

Comparing the pics of it against how some of Bandai's other one-off kits are, this one actually looks halfway decent (unlike you, Mars Daybreak with you half-assed piece of crap Round Buckler kit).

I was curious as to how they were going to do the cloth joint covers this time around. I know the old 1/60 kits used rubber and I think the 1/35 Master Grades did too. This time around, it looks like they use some sort of crumpled plastic sleeve.

Very interesting.
If I can find out when I go in December, I might just pick it up. I think it'll be a fine replacement for an Imperial Knight if one were so inclined.

Metal Slug

Pros: The nearest thing to Napoleon out of Dominion Tank Police available. Comes assembled and painted.

Cons: Very expensive. Looks more toylike than Napoleon.

I wish they had done it as a polystyrene kit, which would have been cheaper and make conversion seem less of a desecration.

The Chinese actually have you covered on that. They not only made a plastic Metal Slug kit, but they made several kits! All unofficial of course, but they look pretty decent from what I've seen of them.

@Space Ranger - The Assault Kingdom figures are just straight action figures. No building involved and aside from the Neo Zeong, they're pretty cheap, too.

They did start out with that concept in mind. If you recall, they did release arm and head sets, but they haven't done that in a good long time and I think they're all out of production now. At the very least, the kits are still modular.

I kept those on mine, but added a chin mounted quad missile launcher! I also drill sunk rivet spots as well!

Sounds better than the giant hands it had in Macross Zero.

Lemme add a little edit here. Some new Mobile Suits for Reconguista in G have been revealed along with a bit of info.

Hecate - Appears to belong to Ameria- which is a new superpower formed from the US and Canada

Jahanam - Another Amerian MS.

Elf Bull - This is a Capital Army transformable MS - Of note, the Capital Territory, where the story is at least going to start out is the location of the Orbital Elevator. The Capital Territory appears to be a combination of Columbia and Venezuela

Elf Brook - Another Capital Army MS

These things ought to yield some interesting model kits if nothing else.

Well, that's the Jahanam confirmed as getting not one, but TWO models.

Spoiler:

Was it really necessary to make two different kits when the only difference appears to be the head? At the very least, they'd better do the officer one in red.

Also, apparently Monster Hunter is getting something funky.... MECHA HUNTERS!

This is actually a chogokin action figure. As far as I can tell, this is a Hajime Katoki redesign of the Rathalos armor set from Monster Hunter, done up as a robot. It even transforms!

Suddenly, I really want one. Rathalos Hunter is due in Feb. 2015 for 10,000 yen. If I can afford it, I may try and actually get one.

This new design of the R-Jaja for the new Build Fighters line also got revealed.

Sorry for the size. I've always liked the R-Jaja's design. It felt to me like what the Gyan should've been, and this redesign takes it to the next level. Damn, that just looks amazing. This also means we'll probably see the regular Double Zeta version in the HGUC line, too.

Interestingly, I think that R-Gyagya is actually being used by the guy who used the Gyan variants in the first series. It's actualy using the Gyan's swords and shields and the vulcans are mounted on the shoulder binders.

For those watching Gundam Build Fighters, you may be interested in knowing that Bandai will indeed be making kits of the knock off Gunpla seen at the end of the first series and being used as training targets in the Build Fighters Try.

The Machine is being called the High Mock.

Equally of interest, they're releasing an add-on set for it called the Mock Army. It has extra weapons as well as an alternate head piece to make it into an even more generic High Mock. The High Mock itself is being released in January with a price tag of under 1000 yen.

Also of interest, we have our first look at the Mega Shiki model, based on the Hyaku Shiki from Zeta Gundam.

What makes it the Mega Shiki is that the weapon system on it's back is apparently a modified Mega Launcher from ZZ Gundam!

That's both random and pretty cool. This will be the first time that that particular vehicle is being made into a model.

We also have some pictures of what the final model of the Jahanam is going to look like. No surprise, Reconguista's equivalent of a Zaku is in fact green.

Actually, according to the blurb, what I can make out, it actually does seem to be using components from the Delta. Those wings mounted on the sides of the Mega Rider thing are from the Delta. I suspect some elements of its legs are as well.

And it may just be me, but the standard Jahanam reminds me a lot of sime of the mook enemy MSs from G-Savior.

I kind of suspect that the Jahanam may possibly wind up being a good guy MS. It seems like the show is playing up the Capital to be the bad guys and the Amerians as the good guys since the pirates all have ties with the Amerian military and government

That's why I recommended using a 1/144. Back when they first came out, someone posted a pic of one next to an old Endless Waltz 1/144 and they were the same size.

Possible, but I suspect it's going to be a bit more complicated than that. The Gundam appears to have literally come out of nowhere, and it's unclear where Monday came from. On another note, the art style for the mecha reminds me of AGE...

>.<

The previous episode seemed to hint at the Gundam and Raraiya possibly coming from the colonies. They haven't come up yet and it wouldn't surprise me if the colonies still maintain a higher tech level than the Earth.

It's from Assault Suits Leynos, a pair of sidescrolling action games. Only the original came out in the US as Target Earth for the Genesis. The sequel was on the Saturn. Assault Suits Valken/Cybernator on the SNES was somehow related to it as well. Plum made models of both Valken and the Leynos.

I have that set. It isn't that good. That's the standard HGUC Zaku, whose sculpt was based on the original anime design. The model kind of sucks. As far as standard Zaku HG kits go, the F2 from 0083 is a MUCH better kit.

Anyway, I measured one of the tanks. Not counting the guns, the tank's body is about 2.5" long. Does that help?

Also, it doesn't show it, but there's two of those tanks in that set, plus little Zeon "hover bikes" and infantry.

Reconguista in G isn't a standalone storyline. It's part of the UC timeline. If you want a self contained series to watch, my rather biased opinion would be to check out X. If you want the main universe/timeline, check out 08th MS Team, follow up with 0080 and if you're still interested, start watching the tv shows.

Lol. It seems that G Savior is universally not talked about. Shame it sucked, it had some neat designs.

I really didn't mind the second season of 00. It really wasn't that bad. It just wasn't as good as the first season.

Also, I prefer Zeta to have that "sad" ending. Kamille was a terrible main character. I hated him the entire way through and he didn't deserve the happy ending he got in ZZ. Judau on the other hand, he's a much more enjoyable main character.

The funny thing about G Gundam is that despite everything it does different compared to other Gundam series, it still manages to hit on a lot of the tropes and despite being totally nuts at points, it plays everything up straight. Even the giant skull shaped robot and the windmill robot.

Also, we're WAY off topic. So, to bring us back on topic, Volks is adding two new kits to their plastic Five Star Stories line.

First, the 1/100 Terror Mirage (something I never thought I'd see a plastic kit of)

I should point out, it will include its big-ass boomerang blades and that the 1/100 line includes full internal skeletons, are fully poseable, and require no paint.

The other kit is in the 1/144 scale line, the A-Toll!

That'd make one hell of a stand in for the Eldar Wraith Knight. The 1/144 kits don't feature internal skeletons and do require a bit of painting, but they're still fully poseable upon completion and are at a pricepoint that still manages to be cheaper than GW.

Volks is one of the old-school garage kit companies. They've been around since at least the mid to late 80s. I've got an old issue of Hobby Japan from 1988 that has a bunch of Volks ads in it. They seem to have been making Five Star Stories garage kits from the start, so they've been around at least as long as Five Star Stories has. It's only the last few years that they've started making plastic models. Aside from garage kits, they're also known for making high-end dolls.

It should also be noted that most Mobile Suits do have integral weaponry. The weapoms mounted internally on Mobile Suits can vary wildly, but nearly every one of them has something built into it. This is even moreso the case in Gundam The Origin and in the novelizations.

I saw that very same Sd tank today at the Volks hobby shopnin Osu along with Fujimi's other SD military kits. There's a bunch actually. Various ships, planes, and tanks. There's a few based on the old Capcom game, 1943, too.

Also saw a display sample of the Shamrock from Valkyria Chronicles. It looked really nice, but fairly small.
