Pushing forward towards the completion of my Tau army. It's a small force, but since I have yet to finish a complete army, I want to get it done and be able to play with one finished force...

I want to be able to live by my higher inspiration to never field an unpainted mini... It will still need a lot of work, but once I'm done with the Tau, I can sleep more soundly as a hobbyist, knowing that I at least have one painted army...

Getting close to a functional painted army...

In theory, the next step in my army painting is going back to the chaos part of it (and some of my deathwatch and sisters...), and the bikes are certainly on my shortlist of things to get painted, along with a few of my deamons...

I think I have to take a new "full painted army" shot for my chaos soon, because the one on the first page here is out of date, and I'll do the same with the other armies I have in the works... Some of them only have a single fully painted mini (my deathwatch, inquisition, eldar and blackshields forces only have a single finished mini each...), but it will make things interesting to see each grow...

I still have to finish the Tau, but now I got my hands on a bargain-priced batch of Grey Knights, so now the focus is on them...

Long story short, I was missing a few pieces for a full squad of termies and a full squad of paladins, so I bought a box of termies to complete. This leaves me with enough spare parts to flesh out the rest of the force, I'll have an apothecary, a paladin ancient, and this guy, a Grey Knights chaplain, Brother Tomas...





I feel that I might have been a little to light-handed on the purity seals...

The Grey knights have firmly staked a claim to my desktop...



I'm doing them for this month's painting challenge, and it's moving forward quite well... In a few weeks' time I'll have them fully finished, along with the strike and purgation squads that they come with, and I'll be happy...

The whole group (so, one squad of termies, one squad of Paladins, Captain Stern, a Chaplain, an Apothecay and a Paladin Ancient.) looks great on the tabletop...



I like how the dreadnought fits right in with the other dudes...



This humble hobbyist is quite happy with the result...

here is a building and my grey knights for scale...

My grey knights moved very quickly because of the leadbelcher basecoat, and this has convinced me that Games Workshop spray paints might be worth using, so I got my hands on a can of mephiston red, since I have tons of dudes to do in red. (Sororitas, khorne dudes, orks, eldar...) So I tried it out this weekend, and damn, it's very much very useful...

Only with spray paints, the Gargant already looks like this, very much playable without too much shame...



And the silver and red - sprayed chaos marines actually look already pretty good on the table, even if the berserkers will look better once the gold and metal is added to them, and that the alpha legionnaires will look better with a few layers of blue-green glaze on them...

But all in all, I'm now very happy with my gaming table and how my army looks on it...

Exactly. Abbadon Black, then a few sprays of Leadbelcher here and there and on the underside, then Mephiston Red... I had the very good idea of magnetizing the arms, head and other bitz to make the whole thing manageable to store and transport, hence the different colors on the different bits...

Well, I had a flash of inspiration for my hulkbuster dread, which is not yet painted, by the way...

It's size is deffinitely in the leviathan range, but he only had the hands... So After a bit of surgery he now has a cyclonic melta. I need ways to make holes in tanks in my list, and this felt like a good one...



Oh, and on another note, I made an Alpharius too...

Here is the Leviathan Hulkbuster with the Iron men...

I red-coated the rest of my berserkers to add to this little troupe, along with Kharn also...

It makes for a nice little battleforce I must say...

I've been riding the wave of my Alpharius to build my 30k (which I will also mostly use in 40k too in one shape or another I think...) Alpha Legion force (so that makes 2 30k armies for me to paint, I really need to get cracking on the painting for 2018!)

So first Alpharius:



I used vellejo blue and green transparent paint on a leadbelcher base coat and it has worked great...





I also got my hands on a sheet of Alpha Legion transfers, as well as bottles of Microset and Microsol and I must say that I'm quite happy with the result.



Now I'm building my 30k force and changing things up in my blackshields also to round up the Alpha Legion force.



My 40k Alpha Legion will get a adjusted paint scheme to fit more closely to the 30k AL, and so i can field a massive 40k Alpha Legion force if need be... (and knowing the kind of games that my kids like, the need will come up at some point... )

So I already have almost 3000 pts...

The new years resolutions are holding, and I've been working on my 30k Alpha Legion. In the process I've learned the hard way why one needs an airbrush to do metallics... My method (leadbelcher spray basecoat with Vallejo transparent paints on top...) works fine with small surfaces, but those big flat panels on the rhinos are all paintbrush marks... That's why I added more black panels to the rhinos than originally planned.Once they get weathered it should be fine, but I'll have to change my method before I paint other transports... On the drop pod the streaking is in the direction of the pod's entry, so the weathering will take the same direction. I'll see how it goes...

I recieved some Forgeworld parts, enough to finish building my Alpha Legion force: Weapons for the terminators, five more seekers and a batch of lascannons for a heavy team.



Since I got my second box of Calth, I have doubles of the two characters, so I built a pair of HQs: A primus medicae (I have to add the needle and buttons to the narthecium...) who will hang out with my terminators and since I was wondering what to do with my deamons, I built the first of an small detatchement of Word Bearers: a diabolist. I've been waiting for a long while to find a use for that sword...

Today is a good day, it's my first finished models from 2018, some Alpha legionnaires.

First up is the first half of my seekers squad, built with the Alpha Legion Headhunters kit.







They are far from perfect, but they are good enough for me, and certainly good enough for me to put them on the table for a game, and that's where I'm going with this army: play with it!

Their ride is also coming along nicely, although there is still a lot of work to be done on those rhinos...



I'm also done with Orthrus, my contemptor...





So, for this year I'm now at six painted models for four models bought... off to a good hobby start...

I needed some word bearer painted up to play Betrayal at Calth, so i painted up some of my CSM...

And my second contemptor too... I still needs some work, quite a bit, but I'm at least happy with the general concept...





I'm going to paint up a few Emperor's Children too, using the CSM squad that my daughter painted purple... this way I can play a 30k hunting party with the three legions...

It was in a box of bits I got when I bought my basic chaos army from a friend, so I'm not entirely sure, but I think it's from the Defiler...

And yes, it is a lot of progress, I'm on a roll of motivation and time to execute, so I dive... I'll have to do a group shot of all I have painted so far this year soon, as soon as I'm done with my two rhinos and my drop pod...

Basically I decided that I'd go play at my local GW from time to time this year instead of other forms of procrastination, and since I've also decided to not play unpainted minis, I'm painting the basics so I can play...

My 1500 pts of painted Alpha Legion, ready for a game against a 40k Astra Militarum list...



Happy to report that I won the first game with them... My contemptor managed to take out a Leman Russ Demolisher before he was himself brought down in the crossfire between a Punisher and an Eradicator... Against a tank army I need more meltas and las cannons, but luckily I have a squad of lascannons on my painting desk...



The terminators were footslogging along, and so had to endure a lot of incoming fire before managing to achieve something... They managed to hold on to an objective until turn 6, but unfortunately there was a turn 7, and a bunch of tanks shooting on them... The drop-podded dreadnought is certainly a very good distraction element...

Big update, since it's been very long... it's also been a very quiet few months, hobby-wise...

I've gotten back to my Deathwatch, after a few months on concentrating on my 30k armies...

So hammer dudes...



(I know, these weapons are overcosted and not very effective, but I just get a chuckle at the thought of dropping a full squad of hammer-wielding vets from a Corvus and wrecking something big with it....)

I've even decided to be modern about it and built a bunch of Primarii...



My Alpha Legion was not left behind, I've added Armillys Dynat to the lineup:



And there is a full tactical squad in my painting queue, waiting for decals and basing, as well as a Primus medicae of my own devising...

There is also this monster:



Which will get the full hairspray weathering treatment, which I have to test first on something less critical like a milk bottle or one of my son's battlewagons...

I've also decided to finally start building the Raging heroes sisters of battle that I've had for at least a year. They are going to be quite a challenge to paint, and I'll need to get a steadier hand that I have now to get them done...











I still have loads of things to build, but with those two squads I at least have something to but in the two immolators that I have (I also have a squad of GW Repentia that will be part of this army that have a spot in one of the tanks...) so all I need now is to get painting...

So far so good, this year... I've built more than I have bought, I have painted more than I have bought, but I have build more than I have painted, do the number of little grey people hanging out in my cabinets have been increasing... I have a lot of half-finished things that are going to get finished in the coming weeks, so I should be getting the ratio back to a more reasonable level soon...

And so the painting result for this month, not much, but I'm very happy to have done it since it's a full tactical squad of Alpha Legionnaires, plus a few extras...





Between the Deathwatch and the Alpha Legion I'm getting a bit bored with Power Armour, I guess I'm going to paint something else for the next wave... I have a "antique" Goblin Blood Bowl team that needs some love, that sounds like fun...

Today is Blood Bowl day, here...

I built by Dwarf team, and with the extra pieces I updated good old Barik Farblast with a beard more in line with the new dwarves...



And with the extra pieces I might have had some interesting ideas...

Here is Skjegg Longbeard, a Space Wolf veteran who is part of the latest killteam to reinforce my Deathwatch army...

I have been carrying these guys in the same little blue plastic box for at least 25 years. Now it is time that they get the coat of paint that they deserve. I still have to find the best basing for the team, but now at least the basic painting is done...

And the knight fever has struck!

I'm now the owner of a Paladin who will get painted in house Malinax Livery...

I got out my current full armies for some army pictures, and I'm very happy with the result...

Meaning that I'm very happy with the fact that my Alpha Legion force is getting painted and is in the process of getting slowly completed...

As long as I had the table set up for army photos, I decided to get the Inquisiton boys out too.

Here is my Grey Knights / Deathwatch army as it stands now. As you see, still a lot of things to be painted, but there is some progress... I still have the bits needed to assemble an extra Deathwatch kill team, and then there are the battle sisters to add to the whole inquisition theme...



And yes, for those of you with a keen eye, there is in the middle of that a full kill team kitted out with heavy thunder hammers... And yes, I know it's a silly idea...

The gun of the Paladin was magnetized so it can be an Errant too, and some paint has been put to plastic... It even aquired its first Malinax decal...



This is such a fun model to paint, I find...

Ah, slowly getting there... the legs assembly is nearly complete, the armor plates have been glued on and some transfers applied...



There is still a lot of work to be done, the two weapon arms are not even at basecoat level yet...

Legs need some weathering, base needs to be done, body needs to be detailed, carapace needs details and decals...

I am still thouroughly enjoying this little project...

Getting along nicely... The carapace decals have been added...

I'm not planning to for now, in fact I'm not really planning on getting anything new for my Alpha Legion Force until i've finished painting it and have played with it a few games... (well, apart from another knight or armigers to complete my allied detatchment...). I'm currently in a 'building and painting" phase, and I'm trying to limit further aquisitions that would add to the big pile of unpainted miniatures...

For now I'm happy to say that I'm done with my knight and that I'm quite satisfied with the result... It is being dropped off today for a painting competition at my local GW shop...

My knight didn't win the painting competition, but I'm still very proud of it...

I've decided to move on to another 'big' project (I have a few other in reserve after that, not the least of which is my son's Stompa...
But for now It's my Avatar of Shaah, the big miniature from Raging Heroes, that is on my painting desk...





I'm trying my hand at wet blending for this one, it will take quite a bit more time than what I usually do, but I'm quite looking forward to the final result!
