ADB released another batch of ships on Shapeways yesterday. More Lyrans, Tholians, Romulans, and several of the "Omega Sector" aliens in the larger scale now. They also released a few more fighters and two of the old school Federation Destroyers with the single engine attached to the Cruiser saucer section.

Pity is virtually impossible to actually see the models over the light background.
Day dreams of flying starships, pity its too expensive to get them in the UK

Is there anything particular you are looking at? I've got a lot of the ships on hand, although they are all in FUD which is just about impossible to photograph due to the translucent quality of the material. I'll try and post some pics as soon as I actually get some of them finished painting (lots of them are base coated now, but I've been too busy working on stuff for FOW and Team Yankee to finish detailing any of them.

Nothing specific, just commenting on the slightly odd trend of using a CGI render, where you have control, then having a background colour that makes seeing the product a lot harder than it needs to be.
Its a game I used to love as card counters, could probably get people playing it locally if the models were easier to get hold of

Another batch of releases went up on Shapeways the other day. A mix of empires, but some things that caught my eye (and got added to my cart); four more classes of Federation fighters, Lyran transport (tug), Lyran PF tender, Federation Scout, Tholian Battleship and a Seltorian carrier group.

Any thoughts on using the minis for the new Star Trek Adventures RPG? Has anyone tried out the rpg during the past year in semi-open beta? The rules have ship combat as well as construction and I'm dipping my toes into the latter for my blog.

You might get a better response in the RPG sub-forum. I've seen the ads and such for the RPG game, but don't really know much about it and I wasn't even aware it included any ship combat rules.
Also, Amarillo Design Bureau (the maker of the miniatures being discussed in this thread) is contractually limited to TOS, so they don't sell any ships suitable for TNG or later. That means the Federation Constitution Class heavy cruiser, the Klingon D-7 Cruiser, the Romulan War Bird and the Tholian Patrol Cruiser are the only "official" ships they sell. Everything else is in-house extrapolations of additional ships and even empires and is limited to their own game universe. These other ships would not match anything in the RPG even for the TOS era.
For doing ship combat in the RPG you might be better looking at the ships from Star Trek: Attack Wing and Star Trek: Armada, as they include ships from the official "expanded universe" of the sequel TV series and movies.

ADB just released some new miniatures early, to coincide with the Shapeways Cyber Monday offer of 10% off and free shipping today.

ADB posted their normal monthly Shapeways release on Tuesday, December 5th. It included more fighters (Romulan and Federation), more scouts (Romulan, WYN, Tholian and Kzinti), Tugs (Federation and Lyran) and a few other things.

The minis are great to paint on their own; I've got a bunch that I'm using as shelf decorations since I'm in your same boat

I know "toys" can't legally contain it, but quite a few metal miniature makers still do (outside of the USA) use it in their castings and generally they will have a "this is NOT a toy" disclaimers on them. GW only went lead-free because of a PROPOSED NY state level bill to ban it in toys* (following Ral Partha US's lead) since that would effectively have killed any sales they had in the USA. "Scale models" and a few other types of models are exempt from this restriction (as they are not classified as "toys" and not subject to the same protocols. In many places, scale models are also exempt from customs duties (toys are not).
*That bill failed, but by then, GW and RP had switched to a different alloy (which used bismuth instead of lead in it and had a higher tin content, too) and it would not have been cost effective to switch back again. Smaller companies, with smaller needs, never switched out (Even in the mid 90s, GW was buying tonnes of alloy per month and that's a big investment subject to the swings of the metals commodities markets).
