youwashock wrote:Interesting. Assembly woes aside, I look forward to seeing how you tackle these.
Assembly is really pretty good aside from the unlabeled parts. No major burrs or seams when cut from the sprues. Though as I’ve read other places the joints on some models don’t perfectly fit so gaps are happening.
Heretic Tom wrote:Interesting notes on the Marvel stuff, thanks for the warning. I really want to pick those up , in the mean time I can't wait to see what you do with them!
Thanks Tom, I’ve started thinking about colors and not going all comic book style. With current temperatures it’s looking like post Christmas/New Years for priming at this stage.
JoshInJapan wrote:Am I reading that correctly: the models' arms come in two pieces each? That seems unnecessarily fiddly.
Yes, lots of tiny parts, reminds me of Dreamforge models, just slightly larger.
Well Hulk smashed his delivery driver so now it’s Thursday delivery for him. Other items showing today still. At work for our Christmas party and usual fun now.

I couldnt afford Hulk or Modok, but the wife knows I want Hulk for Christmas...we'll see.
As far as upcoming releases, the Black Panther and Thor themed stuff isnt really exciting me....and if I do get Thor and Valk, I want to convert them to match the Ragnarok film...I'm really just stoked for Guardians of the Galaxy.
Excellent work as always Theo! Keep it up! I cant wait to see how you paint these up. (There, I've made my annual appearance )
Good to know, figured there had to be one out there. Thanks for the heads up.
I know the feeling of not affording one, just got my Christmas gift card which paid for him. Also just got two unexpected checks from doing people some favors at church and them returning the favor, so I might go grab MODOK tonight.
Not many of the upcoming releases excite me, oddly enough the garbage truck is high on the list.
I know it’s Christmas and deliveries are strange, but Hulk was scheduled for yesterday, then tomorrow, then he was at my house when I got home from working at church today .
I’m going to do some more assembly now.

Well, 2 hours of assembly, but core box and hulk are all ready for play.....what, you want paint Little trouble during assembly, one of iron man’s shoulder pads flew into the microverse , stupid fiddly parts. I crawled around the floor for fifteen minutes with a flashlight to no avail . Of course it’s one of the parts where they don’t give you any spares . I put all the spare bits into a ziplock bag.
Also the super secret item arrived Time to start planning things out even more.
Thanks Super Secret Santa , it’s going to the top of my to do list.

They are very dynamic so maybe the highly 3D poses forces them to be made from more separate parts since nothing is flat or straight. That Hulk model is really impressive.
Having finished the other models she is one of the easier to assemble . See the assembly instruction link below.
Viterbi wrote:Excited to see the Marvel heroes!
But it makes me a little sad, that they are so fiddly. I hate small parts and am absolutely capable of ruining a miniature while assembling. And they really don't look, like they would have so many parts. Have fun painting them up!
I dislike it too, but the details really do show. Having such skinny parts with texture on all sides and no mold lines has its costs.
So link I wish I knew about sooner . It’s even kind of hidden on the website, no in big bold letters on the main page, you have to use the drop menu to get to the assembly page.
https://static1.squarespace.com/static/5ce432b1f9d2be000134d8ae/t/5dcd9371e3b67a6ab2b73a27/1573753719547/Coreset+characters+assembly.pdf Here you can see some of the travesties I’m talking about. Crossbones has a helmet piece and a piece that fits the front of the helmet . Ultrons upper thighs are each 3 pieces. Captain America has tiny pouches on his belt, luckily they give you doubles of these .
I’m sure in the painting of these the extra details will help out, but I’m sure there’s someone out there who is substituting heroclix figures.
Also realized that since I had pulled out my Tablescapes boards before for DCU, they will actually probably fit this game better. I’ll unbox them again tomorrow and try it out. PLUS EVERYTHING IS STILL IN VIRGIN GREY PLASTIC , so it’s meant to be Ah true love.

4 Ground makes some nice stuff from what I’ve seen, not too surprising that the Batman ruff would be close in size as it’s closer to the MCP scale than 28mm scale stuff. Wish local shops carried it, but I think the Dust Tactics terrain I have sitting about will work as well.
ListenToMeWarriors wrote:A shame to hear about Iron Man's shoulder pad, we have all been there crawling around looking for tiny miniature bits. It is usually on that crawl that you find the bit you lost three months previous and no longer need!
And when do we get the super secret santa reveal?
True, I found the jug of simple green degreaser that has been holding my metal Escher gang for over a year and a half a shot well as some bits from Test if Honour that fell off the table too.
Super Secret Santa Stuff needs to be approved for showing........IT’S THAT FREAKING COOL . It’s going to be a few days before I can even give it the time of day to properly look at myself and might be the New Year because I work the next 6 straight (yep, Christmas is my next day off ). Plus I need to get approval first, which with our hectic schedules..... who knows.
Oh, last but not least I picked up a lonely M.O.D.O.K. today. He’s still grumpy and in his box, but stifled by cellophane so not much yelling can be heard.
Edit: who needs rest before work , assembled MODOK (tired of putting in the periods ).
Also some scale shots with DUST buildings and tablescape boards.
I think these look good together, the Quonset huts however are far too small as Red Skull would have to be ducking the entire time he is inside.
The tablescape boards will work nice as well even though the sewer lids are different sizes and the metal hatches for basement access are also different the fact that both are represented will help blend them together.
Thanks for looking

They are probably 1:40 scale as I have some 1:43 scale which are just smaller, but still usable. The 1:43 are just too small, the Red Skull stands taller than a SUV in 1:43 scale.
Great news, did some more crawling and found Iron Mans other shoulder pad . Glad I won’t have to buy another starter box , because I would.

I think most of your "toy" cars about this size are 1:43 ish. And "taller than an SUV" depends on the SUV, I should think both you and I can look across most roof tops at eachother, it is only the Real Deal that are truly tall, for us over here that would be Rangerovers etc. Most of our SUV stock is Audi/VW/Honda/Volvo, and they are not really that tall.
Yeah, I can see over most vehicles, so it’s believable, just the car also winds up wider than the SUV. Overall not a big deal if they aren’t right next to each other.

Looking forward to those Marvel models more. They had them in the display case at the local store. Seeing them in the "flesh" really drives home how large they are. Ultron was particularly impressive, a model I would gladly buy on its own. Have you seen the Thanos they plan to release?
I have seen Thanos , and the Knight Models type gigantic base. They have gone full Warhammer 30k Primarch bases with him and the base the size of a city block . He looks great, the throne is not necessary to me though and just a tool to jump the price up.

Almost picked up black panther today. Waiting until after Christmas because I know there will be sales happening.
While at MM I ran into a guy I gamed with 20+ years ago. He was wrapping up a game of ASOIAF, got talking and might have been swayed into getting into that game . While I enjoyed playing with him all those years back (THE best bloodbowl game ever played I got to watch him make an unbelievable last move turn to win), I just don’t see myself being able to get another system and the time to play. I’ll probably go watch and at least meet up again inthe coming weeks.

Subject: Re:Theo's Crisis Protocol, or jumping universes AGAIN
Little bit of work on Hulkie.
Another brighter highlight added, some work on his pants, but I really don’t have many purple paints .
Went to Miniaturemarket today and played a pick up game of British vs. Pirates. It’s a hex based naval combat game in the time of sails. Fun little game, got pulled into it to play with that friend I ran into last week. Almost bought into it, but I think this can be a beer and pretzel game the other guys provide. I think I was the youngest out of 6 of us at 45, most of the guys were 60+ and told me this is a fast game because us old guys don’t have much time left ......three hours later . But I see where having 3 people on each side tends to slow things down. Still very fun time was had.
So I know I mentally need help focusing. Miniaturemarket has the ASOIAF game at half price. I don’t really want to jump into it, but it’s a good deal and Jamie is part of the St. Louis ASOIAF league and I joined the Facebook page. Looking at models, I like the Free Folk, the starter box just doesn’t do much for me. I may have to investigate downloading the rules and getting spare measuring stuff from others.
Also looking at stuff I see the new Chaos warriors starter set . Oh that is the look I’ve been wanting from chaos for decades. But the drawback there is straight up GW pricing . Not sure I want to do that, but the starter set plus Archaon look so nice.
Not many of the MCP figs are calling to me, but each box will have cards . I’m so tired of card games in my miniature games.

Subject: Re:Theo's Crisis Protocol, or jumping universes AGAIN
Another quick look at something. Trying out some colors on old models and thinking of next project . Came across this old battlemasters chaos archer and wanted to do a side by side with his remodel.
Focus problems are real.
So much new stuf to paint and I’m repainting things to see about what to get next.
Have decided (for now) not to get ASOIAF. But other items are still n my list to knock off.
Edit: so thinking about chaosifying my Stormcast and adding the Khorne stuff and new Slaves to Darkness starter box. Only part of the way there on this guy. The helmets need to be replaced to get a better feel I think. Also the beige will be taken more to a white I think and damage added. Been looking around for inspiration. It will need a spot color and I’m thinking bright orange. The one I saw had bright blues.

squall018 wrote: I really like the old chaos archer. The Godsworn Hunt guy is better sculpted technically, but Im a sucker for older models.
Yeah, I totally agree, the older model has such character too.
So painting today. Or repainting is more appropriate. I’ve always had problems with Khorne and red, so when I saw alternate schemes I was intrigued. Repaint of my underworld warband of Khorne in progress.
Also I pushed the Stormcast too far . Too many layers and my OSL didn’t come out the way I wanted.
So my LGS still has copies of the AOS 2015 starter, at $125 no less. It has basically two $90 start collecting boxes in it as well as a couple larger models. Khorne and Stormcast are the two armies. Not much of a coincidence that those are the armies I’m doing test colors on . I also have my Underworlds warband of Khorne bloodborne to test some patterns on. I wasn’t a huge fan of the Khorne models from the set, but I guess I’ll take another look at them.

Oooooooo Elric . Hadn’t thought about that.
Little bit of work on the Khorne guy.
Thinking of giving the eyes a red wash.
Some details to finish up, and now I’m thinking of doing the martial red colored sand basing.
Edit: bit of an update, have four guys in the works, going with that skin tone I think. Let me know if it’s a good contrast. With the very monochrome scheme the bluish skin draws the attention towards the faces.
I don’t have the Martian Ironearth/crust technical paints. The question becomes will the red basing draw too much attention from the models. Also if anyone has used other alternatives to the GW ones, let me know especially if they are cheaper and come in larger containers.

Sorry for the late response guys, struggling to get over the new year.
Almost pulled the trigger today on a purchase, trying to be good, then after walking away from it I realized the deal is REALLY good. So I’m picking it up tomorrow before work. Older start collecting Khorne Bloodbound (Slaughter Priest, 3 Khorne knights on Juggernaughts and 10 Blood Warriors) basically half price and a big 200ml bucket of red oxide texture.
I’ll try and post picks in an hour or so when I’m home, I dug out some old chaos dwarves and started them in this same color scheme.
Edit: Chaos Dwarves
Could only find one loader for the two bazookas. Also found a large hat wearing guy with a horn. Not sure what they could be used as, but they are just fun as is.

Hope that blows your horn. He will get painted eventually.
Redoxide paste basing. I orepainted the base Khorne red so I could say every model in the army has Khorne red on it . It will all be covered up by the basing paste and the trim will get a new color too. Probably black.
I think the bases still need some more decoration. I have wasteland basing tufts and some red sand vase filler which may get added here and there.

Luckily I can do both at the same time , without the quality dipping any lower than my usual level.
Weather was warm enough to prime my new guys before I left for work. Temp is plummeting as we speak and snow/ice expected this weekend.
In the mean time I worked on the basing as I was t impressed with straight red oxide paste. So I added a coating of Carromburg Crimson was to make it more red than orange. Army painter tuft also.
Then started the skin on the Bloodbound Garrick’s reavers war and from underworlds.
They are also being repainted from before. One more layer of skin to highlight before I start the rest of the model.

Well, I couldn’t find another of those start collecting boxes. They were the 2018 ones I believe, but my LGS is having 15% off and I’ve been eyeing their 2015 AOS starter boxes for $125. Was just a little more than I wanted to spend, but with 15% off (plus I just earned $10 in store credit from it) it was a no brainer. $115 (plus $10 credit earned) basically got me 2 start collecting boxes plus some special characters.
I’ll post contents later, but that’s 29 Khorne dudes (4 special guys) and 18 Sigmarines including mounted Lord-celestant on Dracoth.
Edit:
Contents picture for sake of showing.
20 Bloodbound
5 Blood Warriors
Blood Secretor (Big circular banner guy)
Blood Stoker (guy with whip, missing a hand but had a sword shoved into the stump for reasons)
Khorne Lord with pet Flesh hound
Khorgorath (Dumbest model I’ve seen since Pumbagore)
Lord celestant on dracoth (think he might get the Khorne treatment)
3 winged sigmarines
3 sigmarines with really ornate hats and big hammers that shoot? WTF?
10 hammer time sigmarines
1 Sigmarine who wishes he could have died and become a skeleton .
Pretty nice bunch. Still trying to decide if I’ll chaosify the Sigmarines or not.
Edit: got home, massive storms, painted for about an hour. So here I should the progress.
The question is do I add red to my palette? His loincloth and straps on the back of his leg armor? Or do I stay away from red altogether?
