So i may very well be starting the two most unused and difficult armies to start,, and i could really use some advice on where to start. With sisters being as expensive as they are id rather not buy anything extra i wont be using and with Deldar about to update itd be a shame to find out my new models are already becoming obobsolete, plastic or rules wise.

so question being, what are some good models to start out with for each army? I bought a mmini deldar collection from a friend including two ravagers a handful of kabalites, a venom and maybe a character in there, and for sisters i cleaned out my lgs of their stock, being an imolator, the organ toting tank, a single sister with multi melta and a single sister superior, so definitely need more ladies than vehicles eventually

Would you know what level of points you would be playing? In your area/FLGS/group of friends?

If you prefer a battle forged list, the minimum would still be 2 troop choices. The minimum number of battle sisters for that would be 4. 2 per troop choice. The troop choice would consist of 1 sister superior, 2 special/heavy and 2 sisters with bolters.

In larger point games, more sisters with bolters can be considered. Also, with the current miniature range, the bolter sister model is used in almost all units except seraphim. So more is not really redundant.

The more commonly suggested set up for battle sister squads is meltagun/flamer. Due to 7th Ed and all, the heavy flamer/flamer set up has dropped in popularity.

As for dominions, commonly 4 meltas are used and seraphim, 2 with double hand flamers in a squad of 5.

You might want to consider more transports and maybe up to 2 exorcists.

Personally, I always have repentia and in my list and mostly have penitent engines because I like them. But they are probably the most unpopular choice by most other SoB players.

So if you have 2 troop choices, 1 dominion and 1 seraphim squad, the numbers might be

3 sister superiors
4 sisters with bolters
6 sisters with meltagun
2 sisters with flamers
2 seraphim with hand flamers
3 seraphim with bolt pistols

But this really depends how you want to set up your squad.

Well, I'd also like to start a SoB army. But GW just don't promote them.

For Dark Eldar, I'd pick either Coven or Kabal/Kult. If you go Coven, you'll need 2-3 haemonculi, 3-7 grotesques, 18-30 Wracks, 2-4 Raiders, 1-3 Ravagers, and Urien Rakarth wouldn't be a bad pick either. Garnish with additional units to taste.

For Kabal/Kult lists, there is a great deal of options, but 10-20 Warriors, 10-20 Wyches, 3-9 Reavers, 1-3 Ravagers, 2-5 Raiders (or 4-10 Venoms), and an HQ. (Duke Sliscus is a great choice, and the Archon is your best bet if you want to avoid characters.)

A Beastpack is a good investment for any list, as is Baron Sathonyx (with the optional troop-choice Hellions).

When it comes to HQs, I think the DE are one of the armies where special characters really shine. You can definitely make a go with just a Haemonculus, and it's possible with just an Archon, but I wouldn't try it with a Succubus. The special characters really pull their weight in this 'dex. (Or the generic HQs don't, whichever way you want to look at it.)

It's worth noting that the Dark Eldar benefit immensely from allies. Eldar psykers bring some much needed oomph to the field.

In any event, welcome to the freakshow!

To build a Sisters army, you need bolters, meltaguns, flamers, and heavy flamers/bolters. Exorcists.

What you don't need: arco-flaggelants, multi-meltas, storm bolters.

What is flavour to taste: Canoness, Jacobus, Celestine, Seraphim, Penitent Engines.

As slow as I'm going to be building the dark eldar,, i think right now my emphasis is still on which models are most likely going to survive the next codex update etc, rather than whats good to field right now. Albeit what's good now AND what'll survive gains double points.

Sisters im sure wont update again anytime soon so whatever is good. Preferrably in order of whats going to be playable right away, as opposed to a huge list i need to start when i can start with a 500pt, move up to 1000, 1500, etc

Two troop choice of sisters will probably cost 200-300 points already, depending on your load out. That leaves you about 100 for a fast attack or heavy support or elite choice. The last 100 would probably get you your HQ choice.

Consider Ministorum Priests as well. They are pretty useful in a sisters army.

The above advice on SoB has been pretty solid; as GW only sells them direct (maybe there are some dusty girls floating around) I would suggest shopping here, ebay and bartertown.com. You can get a small force for $100-200, which will include 20+ bolter girls, some special/heavy weapons. Celestine and an immolator or two and an exorcist. Then you can add some Seraphim if you'd like. Generally, you can save money buy purchasing in bulk as opposed to buying squads of bolter girls. They are an expensive army, but I really enjoy playing them.

Ebay is a good advice in general, for not only might you be able to save some cash there - you might even get lucky and score one of the SoB OOP minis such as the Banner Bearer.

GW currently claims that this is the one, but actually this used to be only an alternate version of the Simulacrum Sister. Because the "Blessed Banner" here is not a banner at all, it's a piece of parchment tacked onto a stick. The original Banner Bearer looks like so:
