Yes I realize that the list only has 24 models in 1000 pts. This is not a list I am seriously considering playing. Believe it or not, I do not enjoy playing 0 comp armies.
The point of the list is to get as many hammerheads and stealths as possible. If I wanted an army that would slide around the board I would have used my normal 1000pt list with 2 HH, 2 FoF,5 stealths, and a cheap hq. In this list, the only point of the fire warriors is to occupy the required 2 troops slots and to harrass anything that gets within 30". In playing against myself with lists like this against 'nids I have found that even 6 man fire warrior squads can be very effective against anything from gaunts to carnifexes.
As to the small model count - this is both a blessing and a curse. The entire army is pretty easy to hide so I'm not too concerned about getting wiped on the first turn. Also the stealths and the HQ can work together (over in YMDC it was determined that the stealths, even though the codex says they can be ignored, still count as a "closer target" when determining if the independant character can be targeted) and they are very good at ripping through things. Against meqs, they can kill 5-6 marines a turn and that usually means wiping an entire squad every shooting phase. That and with jsj they are almost immune to return fire if you choose a good terrain piece to work around.
In 1000 pts, playing well and fielding only 2 hammerheads, you can expect at least one of them to survive to the end of the game. Yes I have had situations where I shot at a predator with two hammerheads and failed to do anything while its return fire destroyed a hammerhead. This happens. I want as many hammerheads as possible in order to make it possible for me to carry on when stuff like that happens. Dice turning against you is not indicitive of a problem with your army list.
Furthermore, on 4'x6' boards (what I play on almost exclusively) you can usually put one HH in one corner and one in the other corner of your long board edge and still be able to concentrate fire thanks to their 72" range. The only way that a lascannon could pose a threat to both 'heads is if it was deployed at 15" from the board edge at the very center of its deployment zone. In all likelihood, this would be an exposed position and it would obviously be a target to wipe out asap.
So in the end, I like this list, for all its beardiness.
