Hi all,
Thinking about getting back into Fantasy and I've got my heart set on VC. My question is... how many bodies do I need?
Skeletons and Ghouls are more in my interest... I just don't like zombies that much. I'm looking at 1000 points initially until I scale it up to 2k or larger.
So for 1k points - 40 skeletons? More? What about raising more troops? How many extra models do you guys usually keep on the side?
Other units would be Grave Guard/Black Knights plus some wolves for harassment, and probably some monsters for the cool/scare factor.

Well i dont play VC but recently played against a buddies of mine. I think he had 100 zombies and maybe 60 skeletons on the board at one pouint.
Was a 3k game and he started with small initial size units and quickly buffed them up. Im sure its possible to get more, but YMMV.
If you dont want to do zombies i dont think you need that many ghouls. He took 30 i think and you cant raise more then you start off with. So it depends how many you want to take vs. your points limit.

It is going to depend on whether or not you use the new "Lore of Undeath" in relation to the Ghouls. Lore of Undeath can raise up Ghouls(in addition to Skeletons, Zombies, Grave Guard, Tomb King Skeleton Warriors, Tomb Guard, or Skeleton Archers) with "Ryze the Grave Call".
Although personally I do use Crypt Ghouls and Dire Wolves quite often as my Core just because it makes people very surprised when they see them.

At least 50 of each, and more zombies than skellies. personal preference.
I tend to use Mantic zombies a lot. Much better looking and infinitely cheaper than GW's.

What do you want to do with them? Tarpit? for how long? and what kind of units do you wish to tarpit?
Zombies, need alot in my opinion in 2400 I start with 70 and summon up to as close as I can get to 100. yeah 100! It'll tarpit anything for 3+ rounds
Skeletons, unless you have a level 4 Necromancer with Master of the Dead. you'll need to start with as many as you can. I suggest 40-60 depending on what you intend to do with them.
as mage bunkers I limit them to 10-20.
This is in no way the only way to play them just my preference.
