Quick question: are all of the rhino based kits compatible? Like could I take the vindicator siege tank and remove the shield and cannon, put on the stalker cannon and all of a sudden have a new tank?

While they are all formed around the same core chassis, there are some differences.
The Vindi has some extra bits, not sure how easy they are to swap. Same with the stalker/hunter.
The pred/whirlwind/razorback/rhino are all 100% compatible. Just don’t glue on the doors and top hatch and you can swap around without issue.

This.
The Vindicator has a top armor plate and two side plates that attach over the side doors. The front piece that holds the cannon is a special piece as well.
Magnetizing a Vindicator to make a Rhino/Razorback/Predator can be done though. This kind of gives you an idea of how it can be done.
I don't have an expierience with the Stalker/Hunter kit so I cannot comment on its flexibility.

A good rule of thumb is never to buy the actual rhino kit. Every tank that shares the hull includes all the parts to make a rhino. So for an extra $4 you can swap between a rhino and a razorback as needed. The $20 to upgrade to a Pred/WW is a little steeper, but still gives you a lot of flexibility if you want more troops, and less tanks.
If you look into 3rd party parts or bits sellers, you can also stretch the chassis you have.

I certainly always buy razorbacks so I can swap and choose as I wish, you don't even need to magnetise, just don't glue the hatch or the storm bolter and swap them out as you want

Here is a tutorial I made for magnetizing the Rhino so it can be any version of that series of tanks.
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/484712.page
I just got a stalker a few days ago, just opened it and cleaned all the parts, haven't built it yet, but from looking at the instructions, the weapon is easy to swap out, like the turret on a Predator, just has some side armor and a couple different front armor pieces that are different then the plain Rhino tank. I don't think it will be hard to magnetize it and make it so a Rhino could be a Predator/Razorback/Vindicator/Stalker Tank.
