hey all, ive been wondering if the tankyness of a DLS mega boss is worth the loss of speed from SnP??

thoughts?

In an actual green tide formation, I would say no. Mainly because its going to be shot at so many angles that his 2+ save won't be able to save a lot of the boyz from the brunt of it and not being able to run effectively takes away the WAAAGH! rule he has given that he lacks Ghazghkull's ability to ignore SnP for the purposes of a WAAAGH!. I think it's much better to go for the Big-Bosspole for the Fearless and as for personal protection the morass of boyz and FNP from the obligatory Painboy is enough protection as is.

It could be used to tank shots from a given direction whne you have a wierdboy and roll deepstrike. And only if the opponent doesn't have enough ap2 dakka or fast flanking stuff.

Too many ifs. Speed is much more important than 2+ rerollable from one side.

Not much of a point tanking wounds when you've got 100+ in the unit.

I feel a lot of people glaze over what boyz really are: ablative wounds for our nobles and warbosses. I count on what my nobz can kill with their powerklaws, and treat every casualty the unwashed masses deal as a bonus. Boyz are just powerklaw UPS.

With that in mind, the Green Tide is just a great big delivery vessel for a whole movie cast worth of ork characters. Its the boyz that are tanking wounds for the Warboss, not the other way around.

Agree with everyone here. You don't need to spend points and a second detachment just to get a 2+ save on a unit which is made of ablative wounds.

Dropping a warboss with the stikk into the mob is nice for the +1WS, but MA hurts more than it helps. All a tide needs from outside is a pain boy for FNP. Anything beyond that is optional and should be carefully weighted against bringing much needed support in form of mek guns, lootaz and additional blocks of orks to be able to hold more objectives.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

i haven't been using one, but the thought crossed my mind. i didn't feel i could give up the speed gained from not having one.
thanks for all the input.
