Hello, I am just starting with 40k and I have chosen Orks as my first army. I was wondering what size army I could get for ~200 USD? Would it be possible to get 1000 points?

If you don't have the codex already, than it'll be hard, even with finding discounts/ebay/second hand stuff.

If you're on a budget, hit up the swap shop here and ebay. You might have to work a little stripping paint and fixing broken models, but you'll get a hell of a discount.

Either that, or find a list that uses small amount of high point cost models to keep the army cheap.

Thanks. I will check out the swap shop. And the codex and rule book would be purchased separately from the ~200 I will have to buy the models.

Well in that case, I'm sure someone more knowledgeable with the new Orkz can help you out coming up with a somewhat cheap 1000pts list.

Either way, the swap shop has saved me hundreds of dollars in the past, and ebay is still good if you're willing to put in some work.

I would shoot for 500 points. Get the codex in hand first. Decide if you want your 500 point army to be on foot, or in trukks.

If you want to be in trukks your best bet might be the Army Box that comes with a Trukk twenty orkz and three bikes.

If you want to be on foot just select a warboss and start buying boyz boxes. By the time you buy five Ork boxes (about 150$). You would have roughly two squads of twenty boyz and could have the bitz to build 3 nobz or 5 'counts as' Tankbustas (or rokkit boyz).

Orkz are argueably one of the more expensive Army choices due to the sheer number of models Orkz usually field.

I am the kinda ork that takes his own washing machine apart, puts new bearings in it, then puts it back together, and it still works.

I do like the look of Trukks. Is the box with a Trukk and bikes on the GW store? I don't see it there.

Yeah, totally doable!

I would check ebay for models from the old starter pack, "assault on black reach"-it comes with cut price Boyz, Nobz, Warbosses and Deffcoptas that you can get on the cheap compared to GW pricing.

Beyond that, pick up a Battlewagon to hold your Nobz and you should be good to go.

I'd do this:

Good sized (~20?) unit of boyz, with the 'ard boyz armor upgrade, led by a custom made model meant to count as a Painboy (medic). This gives you a durable "tank" unit to charge across the field.

A unit of Deffcoptas from Black Reach (maybe six if they're cheap?) armed with rokkits gives you mobile anti tank.

A Battlewagon (the heaviest ork tank) armed with a Killcannon gives you ranged anti-infantry, and you can put a unit of 10 nobs lead by a Warboss from BR as a huge threat to anything in the game, even tanks.

Then add in another small unit of boyz to hold objectives and you'd have 1000.

The original BR ork set that I got was 60 bucks for 20 boys, 5 nobs, boss and 3 kopters.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

I guess the Ork battleforce is OOP, you might find a nice deal on one or two on EBay.

My apologies it isn't up in there websites store. If you have a gamestore nearby they may still have them (maybe not for contract reasons though?).

You could also look at the trukk boyz box to.
I'm not entirely sure what exactly is in the trukk boy box but it looks like a box of boyz and a trukk for 60$. I would definately look at a local games store you usually get a discount. It isn't as nice to do it that way because you don't get the extra bits that might make that extra Tankbustas or Nobz squad and less boyz than the Battleforce Box.

I will will check out my local game store for those things. Is the Ork Mekmob any good? It has a Trukk and 10 Boyz but are the Meganobz, Deff Dread, and Mek any good?

Thanks for the info. Ebay doesn't seem to have many of the Assault on Black Reach models. I will see if I can find more of them.

Most would argue the deff dread is bad right now.. Without the right armor saturation (IE 12 Kanz) you probably don't want them. The mek is good for advanced tactica involving challenges or repairing vehicles later.

You are buying that kit because it has a manz missile (meganobz) and 10 Boyz.

I wouldn't recommend it because the proportions of troops to trukk and man'z to trukk isn't helpful without buying other kits.

The absolute best thing you can do to start orks is to talk to your local players and see if any of them play space marines and bought the assault on blackreach set and didn't do anything with the Orks. I lucked out and my buddy gave me the orks out of it because they were just sitting around and collecting dust in his closet. Most likely if they do have it they will sell you the orks out of them cheap. It comes with 20 boyz, 3 deffkoptas, 5 nobz and a warboss which isn't bad to start your collection. From their just try and find bits here and there since budget is tight. From what I gather Orks are best if you focus on one thing such as troop mobbing (tons of dudes), fast attacking with bike's and trukks, etc. I'm still trying to figure out which direction i'll go. Orks have a lot of good choices. Look through the codex and figure out your play style.
