Hey guys

Looking for some help creating a Chaos Army
I have never played Chaos before and looking to start getting an army together to act as a flip side to my marine army.
Just looking for something that will be fun to play but not totally useless when it comes to playing within the local club or amongst friends. Not looking to enter any tournaments.

I have created a basic 1850 point list below. It doesn’t really have any upgrades really with regards to Marks of Chaos, etc but I assume it’s good to use some of them.

Points wise it’s gone a bit over so what should I drop and what should be replaced or upgraded.
Any help would be appreciated.

P.S. I understand that everyone wants to go with bikes nowadays but, while I know they are decent, I don’t really like them as it doesn’t fit into the theme of my armies.
But if they really are necessary them please let me know

I like defiler but i see that you have 3 termi you can convert into oblitz. So drop defiler. Also turn your termi lord into a oblitz. You now have 4+2 oblitz so you can have 2 squads of 3 or ideally 3 pairs. Give them all MoN.

Turn a champion into a lord of nurgle. Give him bike and pf+lc and join him with spawns. Give them MoN n try to get more models.

Or you can upgrade your termi lord into Typhus and turn your cultist into plague zombies. Also turn your csm into plague marine. Use squads of 7 or 6. You have 20 so you only need 1 more to have 3x7. Also if you dont have extra rhino, then footslog the plasmagun plague marines but give the melta marines rhinos.

I'd say rather than chosen, take Havocs with the same load out, they are a little bit cheaper I believe and have no downsides to it really, plus it'll be a little different than most lists

Also as far as the competitive side goes, spawn and bikes are the way, but if you don't fancy them, you could always try Maulerfiends, they can be nasty and are always fun.

Obliterators are really good, although expensive and work best in pairs with Mark of Nurgle, Mutilators are seriously avoided, and with good reason, they're just to immobile to do anything and that's not funny even in a friendly game :(

The Raptors are cool, though maybe take 10 if you really want to use them, they do tend to drop like flies sadly, although Mark of Khorne, a Khornate Lord with a jump pack and the Axe of Blind Fury is just nasty, not as nasty as a Juggerlord, but still... Nasty...

Other than that I'd say if you like any patron God, go for the ones you like, so if you're a fan of Nurgle (whoop woop), get Plague Marines, Tzeentch for Thousand Sons (very unappreciated), Dubstep Marines for Slaanesh and Khorne Berserkers if you fancy an assaulty army. Defilers are cool too, a very fun and unnapreciated unit by some.

So to wrap up, it's always good to consider your options with the Chaos Marines, they have lots of cool units, and can be fun but they are just not meant for competitive play really. I'd say make sure to take some Marks of Chaos, they can be extremely helpful and can make CSM a very nasty army. Also consider what you want to play, undivided or dedicated to one God? Up to you but the best seems to be Nurgle.

I'd lose the autoguns on the cultists and drop them down to 10 per unit. They're not really there to do anything but camp objectives. That's 120 pts right there.

I agree with Filch on changing the lord over to a Nurgle Bike Lord and running him with Nurgle Spawn. It's a tough, fast, respectably killy unit that you're opponent cant ignore.

Taking the Nurgle Lord also gives you the option to dump the cultists entirely and run squads of 6-7 Plague Marines (again as per Filch) instead of plain CSM and you should have enough points for boxes for all of them.

Thanks for all the advice gents.

Sounds like there are tons of options when it comes to Chaos. Makes being a Loyalist seem a lot easier. haha

All the advice is appreciated. Gonna go back to the drawing board with a view to making some changes.

Just trying to get sort of a plan together so when I start buying more units I know which direction to go

I'd would give the Spawn the MoT, that way they have 6++ and that way they have at least a save of somewhat because you'r going to have to wait and roll a 1 or 2 in CC for the 4+.
