Hi all,
I was hoping for some advice on what to do with my models.
I recently tried to get back into 40k and got the starting portion of a Tau army. I painted a few bits and assembles everything ready to go for the project. I have however had a few changes to circumstance in the recent past.
I have just got a young parrot who I intend to raise and train and am going to be getting married.
So at present I don't have much time to do the models and am thinking they have sunk right down in my priority list.

My question is really should I mothball them and hope I come back to them or sell them and move on?

I have:
Farsight
3 crisis suits
Riptide
Hammerhead/skyray
Devilfish
24 firewarriors
10 pathfinders
3 missilesides
Loads of drones

If I did sell what would be a reasonable asking price?

Im married with new born twins. On top of that I have very busy work and social life. I found that joing a club helped as it gives a that time each week or fornightly in my case where you can plan some time in to get your geek on. Granted life get busy theres alwasy some time for hobbying. I get in the odd hour or two on an eveing when the kids are in bed and the telly is on.

I guess what im saying is stick with it bud.

I'd say stick with it, it's not like you're sitting on a massive collection of minis or anything that's taking up loads of room or is basically hundreds of wasted pounds. I'm sure you'll still find a bit of time here and there to do stuff and I think you'd regret quitting unless you absolutely hate the hobby.

Make time for your hobbies. Even with a 6 day a week job, fiancee, two cats, and other hobbies besides 40k; I still make time, because it makes me happy. Besides, if your misses can't let you get some hobby time in for yourself, there's bigger issues haha.

So: unless you're really hurtin' for money, keep em. You could also train the parrot to play.

Are you more interested in gaming or the hobby side of things? If it's the former, I'd hold on to the army but maybe start another game they requires less work to get on to the table. If it's the latter, you might as well just work your way through the army as you have time to do it.

It all comes down to whether or not you enjoy what you're doing and whether you think it's worth the time. If you'd rather be playing with your parrot and your wife than your models, then put the models aside.

You know, I work full time and I'm at college as well, and I've found carving 4 hours out once a week for 40k to be a huge stress reliever. Seems like I'm echoing the sentiments of others here, but I'd advise making a bit of time.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

I have a full time, straight nights job, am in the army, married, and parent of two girls in several activities. I still find time to build and paint. Less time to play, but I do get the chance every so often. Painting and building is a great stress reliever. I guess what I am trying to say is that you should try to stick with it. The amount of time you spend on the game really isn't important.

As others have said, if you enjoy the hobby, then stick at it. I am stupidly busy a lot of the time between work, family life, music and other hobbies but my love of modelling and my newfound love of 40k mean I will always find time, no matter how short a timeframe that may be, to work on my hobby.

I look at modelling in general as a long term hobby. I've done model railways since I was a kid (good 25-28 years) and believe that I will continue to do so till the day I'm no longer physically capable of doing it. You will find a way to make it work, just have to approach it from the viewpoint of good things truly take time. What I could build in a few months when I was say, 12, when I could put all my free time outside of school into my hobby, now takes me over 2 years with my current schedule. One thing remains though; I still enjoy it all the same!

I would say keep em. You could sell em off, but its not a huge chunk of models, maybe $100 - $200 at best. Also, you can still play with unpainted models, they just have to be assembled. Its your call, but 40k is one of those hobbies that will still be around in 1-2 years. Other than maybe a new rulebook or codex, not much will change. Your models will still be models and probably worth the same value they hold now

Two words: stress reliave.
That is one of the true purposes of having a hobby, there have been many times where i am under severel stress and even get grumpy even with my gf and my little dong, but after i spent time painting or playing i ended up with a big smile and more calm

That's a nice little diverse collection you have there. If you aren't strapped for cash then you'll probably regret selling them. Even if you box them away for years, it could still be great to rediscover them and show your kid etc.

Maybe there'll be a good opportunity to have a game or two at various points and hobbies are a great way to use your weekend if you don't have a lot to do.

I'd also say keep them for the sentimental value. Even though you've only recently picked them up, there was something that made you buy them and think about it, you aren't going to get a lot of money if you sell them which is a shame.

Ultimately your choice of course but I'd say go with what people are recommending - keep them for a rainy day!

40k is a durable good. As such, there's no pressing need to sell.

The best way to think of this is by means of opportunity cost. What's worse, not having a little extra money now, or having to pay a lot more money next time you want to play 40k with tau?

Ejecting now and buying back in later is a terrible idea, as your stuff is going to sell at a discount now, and prices are going to be higher in the future. If you don't think there's really going to be a future here, and are willing to bet the price difference on that fact, then sell. If not, it's possible to estimate just how much it will cost you to buy back in if you sell now.
