After reading through a few threads, I have found that some people have odd ideas as to why we like 40k.
I remember when as a teenager, picking up White Dwarf for the D&D articles and coming across the cool GW models. Since the models looked cool and I had the magazine anyway, I went ahead and started reading the GW articles as well. The models combined with the background storyline and lets not forget the artwork, led me to like 40k.
I'm sure that there are many many stories like mine in this regard with different variations. Since someone here is adamant that this is not the case and that each and every person who has ever liked 40k in the entire world to date, contacted GW and made their decision to like 40k based on graphs of profits, I thought a poll would be in order to see if that was indeed the case. lol

A combination of factors. Awesome models, badass lore, a fun game, and some sick artwork. It hits all the bases for me. Video games don't do it anymore, and P&P roleplaying has kinda fallen off my radar as well, but 40k keeps me coming back for more. I may be more interested in one aspect over the others at any given time, but I think that's probably how most others are too. Modeling is my #1 for a bit, playing at other times, and just reading novels/short stories other times yet. But all these reasons keep me into 40k one way or another

Different thread?
The fluff drew me in after I played Space Marine, but I think it is primarily the quality of the models that keeps me with the game. I got some Hordes and Heroclix but those just didn't capture my imagination like the 40k armies.

Something that is not only in the original post of a thread, but also heavily implied is the inspiration behind the thread is off topic in that thread? Uh, ok...
But if some one wrote that in another thread, why don't you go ahead and post a link to it? You can't, can you? Because no one actually wrote that, and you've just shoe-horned a logical fallacy into what would otherwise be a fair enough poll. I'm not really sure why, but I'm assuming it's some sort of weird ego thing.
Anyway, I voted for a combination, as I appreciate the models, the fluff, and the game, but I'd add that the tournament community is also a big part of why I'm still into 40k.

I seriously doubt that ever happened. Like. Ever. Also, the poll is slightly flawed. You should have just left the option to select multiple options, otherwise there's going to be a huge bias to "a combination".

LOL @ the Poll Troll.
I like most of the fluff, most of the models, the overall aesthetic of the setting.
What's turned me off of 40k has been the changes to the game itself: Flyers( for their rules and cumbersome models), the other giant models (riptides, wraithknights, exocrines et al), allies, dataslates, and formations. 40k was complicated and messy enough when we had just 16 codices to worry about. We always knew that the game was there to sell models and that the needs of the game were subordinate to the business requirement of having periodic releases and updates to maintain revenue. Now they've completely given up on trying to maintain a balanced, coherent game. Instead they've opened the floodgates in order to move as much product as possible. It's not working.

'I was young and stupid and didn't know any better' isn't an option.
Seriously though, 'forge world' should be an option. It's pulp, but I enjoy the imperial armour and Horus heresy books, even though a lot of the rest of the fluff, especially the most recent stuff, is silly.
so, to answer your post, a subset of fluff for me?

For me it it was a combination of models, fluff, atmosphere and artwork. I remember when I was a teen I'd see the models in a local hobby shop, had a couple of friends who played but it was something I never seriously considered till I got a firm introduction to the setting via Dawn of War and was well into my professional life with the disposable income to get into another hobby.
Even then, I've been doing this for about a year, still yet to even play a game on the table top. I just have too much fun learning about the lore and putting together and painting the models. To be honest I'd be quite happy if I never actually played a game and just collected models and books.

You're making stuff up now.
If you refuse to listen, you'll never understand why people dislike GW. Remain in happy ignorance.
I didn't bother voting because the poll was created to make a point, not to learn and it is a stupid point.

No, nobody made that claim, you're the only one that ever imagined any such thing was said, and this smacks of a lame attempt to prove a counter-argument to a point nobody tried to make but you *really* wanted to imagine was there.
But sure, I'll vote in the poll.

Well, to be honest, among lots of other things, I actually do like the game. It is fun and I keep coming back to it again and again, even as other allegedly "better" miniature games grow stale and boring.
Is it perfect? No. But it's better at providing me with an entertaining Sunday afternoon than most hyped-up FOTM "in-crowd"-games I've tried.

Obviously most people voting are going to say 'a combination'. But your poll is useless, it's not leading on to a nice discussion of everyone's reasons, it's leading on to people calling you out on your completely ridiculous claim which you have no evidence for and have even had a MOD call you out on your squigfilth.
So therefore I am voting the bottom option, to feed your ignorance and stupidity, and because it is the one true reason why anyone joins 40k.

Sometimes stories and details conflict. Sometimes things are infuriating, like the two missing primarchs that I just want to know about. YES I KNOW they might have done that so we could create our own. BUT I didn't get into 40k to write my own complete story. I came to read theirs. I only write mine with battles on the table top.
But pound for pound, I LOVE THE FLUFF!!! Nothing comes close to as awesome as 40k grimdark fluff (Disclaimer: For me, anyways).
