Hey guy's!

I am looking to start a third army of 40k. I already have a around 4000 pts of imperial guard and around 6000 pts of Orks. I am not a experimented player, i collect a lots of model but i am not that good, half win half loose.

I am looking to buy a third army that could be competitive and fun to play. I was thinking about necron (is it still the 5 edition codex or 6th edition? When the 7 edition codex is supposed to go out?)

I was thinking about space marine, but its not very original... everybody play space marine... But they is different chapter's like space wolve or salamander?

Please give me your advise!

Thanks!!

May the WAAAGH!!! be with you!

With two horde type armies I'd be tempted to go with an elite army, something like Grey Knights?

It shouldn't be to much longer I would guess BA are next since the new Nid vs BA book came out. Hopefully Necron after that. The necron are still 5r codex.

There are a few space marine chapters that are different:
Blood Angels: Fast vehicles, Asssault Marines as troops, Death Company, Furioso Dreadnaughts, the Red Thirst
Dark Angels: Termies and or Bikes as troops.
Space wolves: lots of special rules and units.
Necron are fun, you can get a wide variety of units, some neat special characters, tactical marine equivalents with str 5 guns, Gauss weapons, Tesla Weapons, A chance to stand back up when they die. Cool mad scientist weapon names(death ray, tesla destructor)

Blood for the bloo... wait no, I meant for Sanguinius!

I really think about necron. Just like Looky Likey said, i want to stay away from horde army Its already cost me a lot of money. Does Necron need a lots of model to do 1500 pts game? they are expensive game wise, right?

If you're going for inexpensive, I think Marines are your best bet because of how ubiquitous they are.

They're a part of every starter set in some form and you can find secondhand models easily.

Space Marines are way cool to play - there's a reason they're so popular. Plus, they'll complement your horde armies (especially IG, since you can ally them).

I would sit on my hands for a bit and wait for the Blood Angels codex - it may be cool, and with their assault and fast vehicle focus, it will play very differently than the orks or IG.

What about eldar probably one of the lowest model count. But necrons are a good choice for low model count and very devastating.
Would personal stay away from marines not that fun to play and lots of people have them as you said but they do have lots of toys.

I made a mock up list and it wasnt to model heavy:

HQ:
Destroyer Lord: Mindchsackle(MSS) Scarabs, warscythe, Sempiternal weave
Necron Overlord: MSS, Reserection Orb, Sempiternal weave, Phase Shifter, Warscythe
Necron Lord: MSS, Reserection Orb, Warscythe
Cryptek: voltaic staff

Troop:
8x warriors, with ghost ark transport
Overlord and cryptek here

9x warriors, with ghost ark transport
Lord here

Fast:
6x Wraiths: 6x whip coils
Destroyer lord here

HVY:
3x annihilation Barges (these are great and almost definitely under costed and the kits come with an overlord in them)

This is not optimized but would probably do decent in normal games. Necron are not for everyone though, I like mine and have fun with them but would definitely recommend doing a game or more with proxies to see what units you like and if you like the army or not.

Well I would stick to the advice I wish I had followed at first, don't play a competive army to be competitive, play an army you like the look of and the fluff.

I avoided playing Tau despite the fact that they were the ones I liked the most, fluff+gundam models, and played other armies I did not like. I got bored of painting/playing/modeling because I couldn't get behind my army. As soon as I grabbed a Tau commander and started painting I was hooked, now I have a 5k+ army and its still growing

About Necrons, rumour is that there will not be any new codex's after the blood angels for a long time. So you might be waiting for a long time.

A really good army that looks a lot like fun, in my opinion, are the space wolves. My friend plays them so my rule prevents me from collecting them. ( I like my group of friends to have a variety of armies to keep things fresh). Very strong, elite army, the rides on wolves and has some stupid OP fliers. Honestly if I ever was to get behind another army, it would be the space wolves. Drunk Viking space marines? Yes please!

That said, don't go off my suggestions, or anyone else's, just because we say the are cool. Go with what you feel like is a good fit

But a SM chapter is a good idea because it let's you ally with your IG, so you're old armies won't be forgotten!

Good Lord, I hope this is true! Leave my codex alone!

@OP: Necrons are relativelt low count army. Going up against Guard and Orks, I always feel like I have hardly anything on the board. You could also use Immortals as your base troop choice and make it even lower count, if that's your thing.

Also, I think Grey Knights are still a low count army...Mayne worth a look since you mentioned Space Marines without wanting to play "normal" Space Marines.

Thanks for all the help guys! Yeah, i love playong my orks but i have sooooo many models on the table all the time. Both my guard's and my Boy's was chosen because of the style and the fluff, i bought the models before the codex because they were to much awesome. I want to change a little and take an army that i can have lower models on the table.

Thanks for the necron list, i will definitively check it out. And thanks for the space wolves opinion, i will check on them as well.

Whats up with the Sororitas? Are they cool?

May the WAAAGH!!! be with you!

Only if you want to spend $80 for your only troops choice.
I really like the Necron idea, but a better list for a newbie is this. Plenty of fliers and powerful units that should get you a nice winrate straight away.

Overlord w/ Phase Shifter, Sempiternal Weave, Catacomb Command Barge w/ Tesla Cannon, Warscythe, Mindshackle Scarabs

Warriors x5 w/ Night Scythe
Warriors x5 w/ Night Scythe
Immortals x10 w/ Tesla

5x Wraiths w/ Whip Coils

Annihlation Barge w/ Tesla Cannon
Doom Scythe

Peregrine - If you like the army buy it, and don't worry about what one random person on the internet thinks.

They're annoying and can tie up any units you don't have the shooting to deal with at the moment.
