Good period BBC drama murder mystery about London after Jack the Ripper stopped killing.

For real, what is it about British actors that make them so much better than American actors? The worst actor on this show would put 3/4 of Hollywood to shame.

Is 'Eavy Metal Calling?

UK

Yeah, having seen the first series and most of the second, it really is an amazingly well done show! Awesome attention to detail, good writing and a great cast make it so much more than a period Cop Show. I eagerly await the DVD/BBC showing of the new series, having be so glad when the petition to get a 3rd season made went through.

It's cancellation was one of the worst moves the BBC has made in years.

I'm surprised to hear a show this good would have been cancelled. Not enough ratings? Too expensive?

Apparently the ratings weren't good enough, and the Monday night timeslot was up against some crappy reality show (X-factor, I think), so that was their very weak reasoning that left a lot of people rather irate. Fortunately, an online petition actually got enough support that Amazon bought it up for their new streaming service, and they're going to show it on the BBC in the new year.

I was also glad when it got reinstated. Too many good series get the axe. I'm still cut up about Whitechapel being cancelled :(

Speaking of BBC dramas, I haven't watched Ripper Street, but I have been immensely enjoying the crap out of "The Game"

Yet another great period drama, The Game centering around 1970s MI5/MI6, the cold war and the like. It's much less James Bond than most people would be used to if you said "spy show" though, but I still think it's great.

I'm into Season 2 now, and I say without shame that I've developed a full-blown mancrush on Matthew Macfayden. Nothing sexual, mind you. Just a desire to have long talks with him over cups of tea into the wee hours of the morning.
