so the bases in the shield of Baal box set are oval and others are 30mm as opposed to 25mm (or whatever the standard infantry base size is)...is that what i should mount them on for gaming?

Well the emails from GW have said you can use the new bases, or the old style for your infantry; it's your choice.

But if you are building assault marines or any top heavy model the new ones are nice.

There are threads on this elsewhere and im on my phone so linking to tough so ill toss some answers.

In the past GW said use the base supplied.

Now they have said ( granted its from the UK sales team and not rule makers) use whatever base you want.

Im not changing to 32 myself. Id need over 100 of them. If you can afford it, use both. Glue models to smaller bases and use magnets to attach smaller base to bigger one when possible. Example is 25 onto a 32.

They are actually 32 mm, as opposed to 30mm.

Which you mount them on is up to you, I guess, though if you have 32mm bases, I don't see why you wouldn't use them. I think the principle advantage is that it gives you more space to work on for basing, and it looks more balanced for the jump pack guys.

I suppose, technically, if you are buying the new tactical marines (next week), you would "have" to mount them on 32mm to have them game-legal, since they never shipped on 25mm. But w/e, I would tell anyone who said something to find a tall bridge to jump off of, if for some reason I wanted to stick them onto 25mm bases. One good reason? I have like, 100+ unpainted 25mm fancy resin bases, for starters. But I suppose as soon as SWM and others start making 32mm resin, I'll scoop some up. I doubt it will take long.

Oh, I never heard the part about use whatever you want good to know, ty.

I wouldn't change my bases because I have hundreds of 25mm, and at least 150 are on bases that took more than just glue+sand; probably a good chunk of those took some effort or are decorative resin bases. Plus, some of my 25mm are actually pinned (the tippy ones).

BoLS posted an email that someone sent to GW and GW said 'use whatever'. GW being GW.......

avoiding the lorax on Crion

i can see the advantage on some models.

jump pack and space marines can not quite fit on a smaller 25mm.

plus will help balance issues, my jump pack guys are weighted to stop them falling over every 5 minutes.

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.

Right. I also have standard bearers -- custom made -- where the fella holds a large flag. They are very tip-prone, and I like playing a couple of 'em because they looks nice on the board

I know a lot of peeps say that it makes a substantive difference in performance, but I think they would be such edge cases in terms of affecting the game outcome. It would be really nice for GW to print somewhere, like in the back of a WD, "you may base any model that was sold with a 25mm or 32mm base on either a 25mm or 32mm base".
