Hay out there anyone know of a simple RPG that could be used as a template for playing a game set in the G.I. Joe universe. Some of use old timers were reminiscing the other day and thought it would be fun to try. We are looking for something simple where we could make up a stack of heroes and a stack of bad guys (Joes & Cobras) to play out some missions. We aren't looking for an XP system because we figure the Joes bring in their experiences. Something where we can think up a mission grab assemble a Joe team and play a game for a few hours, you know 3-4 Joes infiltrate Cobra Island, that kind of thing.

Any thoughts are appreciated, thanks

We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

The R. Talsorian Cyberpunk 2020 system is fast, easy, and based primarily on the d10 with d6s for damage. Works really well for a modern combat game.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

“Modern" games have always been a little hit or miss.

Savage Worlds is a good, generic system. It promotes a fast and loose, heroic feel. Might be a good match. It has the advantage that starting characters are actually pretty qualified at what they do, and don’t take long to make. If you want a more elite feel, starting them at the seasoned level adds a lot of tricks and options, for not a lot of effort leveling them up.

Second Savage Worlds. It would be a nice fit.

There's even a suitable book to use for this already:

I think you would also need the Savage World core book:

Thanks, it looks like this will fit the bill perfectly.
