Hi Guys,

Just a quick one.

Im making a box of guardians and I really want to put a lot of effort into them.. (dont ask )

So I thought about building the legs/torso and sprue spray the rest.
(that way I can paint the body in detail before the gun gets in the way..)

Worried that if I spray all when I cut bits off it will ruin the pints when I file.

Do most people spray on sprues or bases or am I missing something ?

Also going for Base black yellow trim contrast look for my army(angry lil wasps) But need a third color.
Cant think of one that would work. Maybe white/red/blue?

I don’t prime things on the sprue. Everything gets cut and cleaned, then assembled to the point where nothing is going to be obstructed. Then paint, and final assembly.

Some people fully assemble. YMMV. My problem with leaving stuff on the sprue is cleaning up mold lines and cut points. I just don’t see it happening to a point I’d be happy with.

My line of thinking.

I think a bit of trial and error is the status quo

I could maybe see spraying some parts on the sprue, but only from a top quality kit with no shift, flash, or burring and that has few (or hidden) connection points. Basically, GW kits are out, as are most other wargaming models.

The much better method, IMO, is to paint in sub-assemblies. Build as much of the model as you can while maintaining easy access, then join everything up at the end. That usually just means weapons/arms, but sometimes a backpack, cape, etc. is best left off, too. Loose parts are easy to handle if you add a pin in the eventual mating surface. I glue it in place on metals and use it for assembly, later. On plastics, I just do a friction fit and pop it off for the build, since I use solvent cement.
