Hey there! I have recently started getting into 40k, and I have chosen to collect the Tau because I prefer to attack from a distance.
I have put together this list of 1000pts, but I am a noob so help and feedback is helpful.

HQ
Cadre Fireblade-60pts

Commander-Missile pod, flamer-105pts
-x2 Bodyguard Team-Missile pods-79pts

Elites
Stealth Team-Fusion Blaster-95pts

Troops

11 Fire Warriors-EMP grenades-132pts

12 Fire Warriors-Shas'ui, Markerlight+Target lock, Pulse carbines-133pts
-Devilfish-80pts

15 Kroot's-Sharper, pulse rifle-109pts

Fast Attack

10 Pathfinders-x3 metal rifles, Shas'ui-140pts

Piranha-x2 seeker missiles-56pts

Total-985pts

My plans are to infiltrate the stealth teams to a good position (or close to one) and slowly move them up. I will rush the Piranha up, causing a distraction while my Kroots and Pathfinders slowly make their way up the middle of the board. My commander will stay at safe distance from the big battles. The Fireblade will be with the warriors in the devilfish, moving up the flank, and reach a good spot, unload the warriors into a good position, and have the devilfish go right up to the enemy.

Strong list, but your HQs aren't going to fare well. The Cadre fireblade should only really be taken in a fire warrior spam. You've fitted your commander with wrong weaponry, fit him with a stim inject or a shield gen and take the flamer and missile pod off. Instead put two plasma rifles on him and irridium armour too.

Other than that, you've got a 99% chance of winning

This list has a much lower chance of winning than 99% because it is all over the place. I don't mean to offend, it's just there's a lot of things that you could improve on to make your army more effective. Okay few pointers for you:

-don't give your commander a flamer, he shouldn't be needing it. I usually give mine iridium armour, cyclic ion blaster (taking advantage of signature systems) and a plasma rifle, or two plasma rifles like Da Stormlord suggests. Another thing to consider is giving him a drone controller and a target lock with two marker drones. If you do this, give him 2 missile pods to complement the range of your drones. You get to fire the drones at a separate target because of target lock and they're BS5

-don't take bodyguards. If you have an elite slot free, you can get the exact same thing for 10 points cheaper per suit. Also, don't put a flamer with a missile pod, that's silly. One is template range and one is range 36. Fit each suit with two of the same weapon - everyone on this website who knows how to play tau will give you this advice. If you want to know why, just ask

-if you want to use an EMP fire warrior suicide squad to take out an enemy tank then here's how to set it up. 6 fire warriors in a devilish with EMP grenades. Only one individual can throw the grenade so you want the bare minimum squad size seeing as you have to pay for every member even though you can only throw one. Expect this squad to die as soon as you've zoomed them up the table and they've had a pop at the tank.

-fireblade needs to be with a squad of 12 to be at maximum efficiency. They're pretty good for sitting in cover in the back field or on an objective and just lending some long range support to the rest of your army. Just make sure they aren't out in the open. Your fireblade can also split-fire his markerlight, which hits on 2s, don't forget this

-never get the shas'ui upgrade for fire warriors, you can use the points a lot better

-never upgrade your pathfinders, they are for one thing only and that's markerlights. Make sure they're in cover and use them purely as a marker source. Also, use teams of about 5, which will get you 2-3 marker hits each. Basically, if you remove the upgrades on your unit of 10 and split them into two teams, you can mark up double the units and save 45 points (I'm assuming you mean they have rail rifles). Crisis suit plasma rifles are your best source of str6 ap2 weaponry. Also, you can consider dropping one of the 5 man teams if you use marker drones with the commander - you don't want to end up with leftover markerlights and not enough firepower

-if you're ever going to use kroot, don't get a shaper, they're too expensive for what they do, spend the points elsewhere. Also include one hound with them because it gives the whole unit acute senses so they get the best possible positioning. Sniper rounds are also a pretty good upgrade for kroot. Just make sure you have them in cover if you can because they're very fragile.
Having said this, I think you already have enough troops for 1000 points. Make room for a couple of broadsides! Or some more crisis suits. You have a bit of a lack in ways to deal with high armour value targets. Dual fusion blaster crisis teams are good at this.

-piranhas are alright, but having only one isn't going to make much of a difference. There is however a great trick you can do with piranhas. It involves your suit commander and 5 piranhas (or less, but 5 is best for this). Again, just ask if you want me to elaborate.

Hope some of this helps

I'd agree with most of what's been said with one caveat, flamers can have a place on suits but only on those that fully intend to be right up in your opponents face and potentially need them for charge deterrants. As said with your missile pod you have no intention of ever being closer than 30 inches from your opponents if you can help it, so that flamer just shouldnt be seeing use in your games (especially given you can move twice a turn).
