Hey folks,

Playing an endless horde list next week, saw it completely trash a white scars/guard army last night and have decided to tailor a true anti horde marine army.

Imperial Fists chapter tactics, to abuse the bolters.

The endless swarm has 6 warriors, a flyrant, tervigon, some biovores, venomthrope and the obvious hordes and hordes of respawning gaunts.

I am running -

HQ -

Biker Captain, Storm Shield, Relic blade, Artificer.

Troops -

10 Tacticals, Rhino, combi melta, melta.
10 Tacticals, Rhino, flamer, Heavy Bolter.
5 Scouts, shotguns, combi flamer sgt, LS Storm with heavy flamer.
5 bikes, 2 flamers, attack bike with heavy bolter.

Elites -

Dreadnought, twin linked heavy flamer, heavy flamer, drop pod.

Heavy Support -

Predator, Autocannon, Heavy Bolters
Vindicator
Devastators, 3 missiles with flakk, lascannon

Fast Attack -

StormTalon with Stormtalons.

I intend to shred those warriors and the tervi as soon as possible, the flakks and talon will take care of the flyrant. Everything else is on gaunt patrol.

Dread won't do great, you'll get swamped by a huge squad of fearless bugs that tie it up soon as it pods in. Whirlwinds and TFC would be great as they ignore cover (or have an option too). Scouts with snipers and HB with the 2+ will be good options too

The Dread is a distraction unit to be honest, I want him to drop, cook and then force the opponent to have to waste shots or movement getting rid of it.

I always run a drop pod dread, generally with a Multi Melta and find they make a fantastic distraction for quite a small amount of points. In fact last night he dropped in and 1 shotted a Chaos Land raider, killing 3 of the bezerkers inside and then taking out 3 more over 2 complete turns of combat it took him to krak grenade the rest of the hull points off, by which point my vindi had moved into range and pie plated the rest as soon as they broke off!

Don't have a Whirlwind or TFC model unfortunately, if I did they would be straight into the list!

I was toying with giving the Vindi the legacy that gives it ignore cover, I can strip enough points to do it..

I'm not too familiar with this Tyranid formation, but based on what you have described:

You will want the flyrant dead ASAP, so I'd take a Stalker (starting on the board) and Stormtalon combo for your AA. I'd then take two TFCs to barrage the Venomthrope. I'd make the rest of your list tacticals with flamers in rhinos and bolter scouts on foot to screen the assault.

Also I'd use Sentinels of Terra Supplement so you can re-roll shots on overwatch when you get charged.

You could actually get lots of use out of some Legion of the Damned, equipped with full plasma to deep strike in their backfield and kill the Tervigon and Biovores with some AP2, S7 shooting that ignores cover (or if Biovores are T4, then maybe melta would be better so you can double them out).

As for an HQ, I guess whatever fits after all that's handled... you will eventually be in CC so either something fast that can get to objectives, or something that can help shred through the swarm. If you take a Chapter Master, attach him to the TFC but a little farther back than the TFC and his orbital bombardment will "flip" based on the TFCs hit! (just make sure they can both see so they have a good LoS to minimize scatter).

I'd run this:

Sentinels of Terra

HQ
Chapter Master - bike, artificer armor, lightning claw x2

Troops
Scouts (10) - bolters
Scouts (10) - bolters
Tactical Squad (10) - rhino, flamer
Tactical Squad (10) - rhino, flamer

Elites
Legion of the Damned (5) - melta, combi-melta, multimelta
Legion of the Damned (5) - plasma, combi-grav, plasma cannon

Fast Attack
Stormtalon - skyhammers

Heavy Support
Stalker
TFC
TFC

Vs armour the dreads can do great but vs swarm? OK he will drop in and kill say 6 bugs but then it's game over coz he is killing 2 or 3 in combat every turn and when they are fearless and 30 deep he's essentially been neutered. If you want to take him you need another pod in the list otherwise your enemy will know that turn 1 he's coming down as it's the only pod you have.

What models do you have access to?

Could proxy a rhino or two for whirlwinds, drop pod the tacts in instead? Deathwind on the drop pod for another pie-plate to put down.
