Mahu,
Your army's a joke. Completely unworkable. You may be able to beat the occasional 12 year old with it, but only if you put the army in a pillowcase and bash him with it. And while you're at it, add some glue and you might get some decent conversions.

On a serious note, lots of small squads means lots of firepower, but fragile. Looks like it could be a contender, but like anything else, face the wrong opponent and you're going down faster than a 16 year old on prom night.

Good luck and look forward to seeing you next March.

Everytime you use the word fluff, a kitten dies

The only cheesy army is one that beats me because I am the greatest 40k player - ever.

You bring whatever you want, just be sure someones on hand for when you choke on you own loss. Sucka!

Wow, PapaNurgle just rated CaptKaruthors below a 12 year old. Burn.

Any Chaos list will have smaller numbers, if fact they will be smaller than even loyalist marines. So I figured if I spread my units out enough, it will break up and combined assault. My Deamons are good at handling most MEQ units out there, and can break GEQ's as well. I am fearful against certian armies, but there are always the possibility that you will go up against that one opponent that can seriously bone you. I think this list is a nice balanced for that can be very competitive. I am still weary of taking so many Deamons. but it wouldn't be Word Bearers with out them.

Yea Mahu, it's on this week!
Only problem is that there is a fantasy RTT. So tables might be scarce, but if the turn out is any thing like the last 40k one then it shouldn't be a problem.

On a side note, I would have entered the fantasy Rtt if it wasn't for the fact that I completely suck at that game.

HA! Damn those square-basers....Meh. We'll have some space. I really don't think that the fantasy group is going be that big, so we should have some table time. Capt K

I also think I have enough terminators to decently proxy my Lysander wing, so I'll bring that too.

On the topic of the square baser tournament, I dont think the RTT is listed on the gw site so the turn out will be lower.

When did this thread become a Orlando love fest!

As far as getting there on Saturday, I have another horendous Saturday Yard work ahead on me, but trust me I will be there, just when might be an issue. Table space isn't an issue because God Forbid Sci-Fi City actually advertise their tournaments. "Sci-Fi City, the new GW"

And I will take the both of you on suckers. Hopefully Me_Person won't cry, I know how younger boys can get when they take a particularly painful loss. (BTW, the avatar is so apprpriate).

A Batrep we can do. I'll have to remember to bring paper to write with. Maybe a camera if I can remember. Maybe if I have time we can make as cool as the last Batrep Mahu and I did...complete with map and photos. Capt K

Now for a reply thats actually on topic. The list is good. The only problem I could see is that most, if not all, of your squads are small. Thats the only weakness I could see. Decent applications of fire should be able to cripple your chaos marine squads, leaving your defilers and daemons to do all the hard work (something thats not actually hard).

In the previous lists I playtested, they worked well as bait. My lists have a problem with mobility, which negated if I can bait most players to come to me. They are also plenty survivable enough to get the job done.

Yeah, it is a switch from Infiltration. I have noticed that the only thing Infiltration gave me was a better deployment position. But I am not garunteed Infiltration every game and even if I do get it, I am not going to deploy them forward enough to get caught, so I figured that it wasn't worth it. Sudenly, I realised that Plasma Guns are Str. 8 against vehicles if I take Tank Hunters. And since everythime I play you there is always a Plasmagun within Rapid Fire range of a Hammerhead. I figured it was worth it. Also Str. 10 Lascannons where plenty appealing.

Generally I like this list. I hope I am not throwing to many points into Deamons, one game of bad summoning can make me bitter. But at least I am not dependant anymore on mission conditions for my list to work.

Str 8 rapid fire weapons will start making me keep hammerheads a little farther away.
Look, now you've gone and made me change my stratagies! 2 str 8 shots means a 44% chance of a glancing, the same as a tank hunter lascannon. So at <12 thats an 88% chance of glancing.

I still say that a big squad of marines up the gut with the thirster is still going to be uber nasty and fluffy at the same time. Me_Person, don't worry about the small squad sizes...the are paper tigers....the last game I played, I laid the smackdown on those squads, but like always, two defilers and the thirster, were the lynchpins that kept the game close. My strategy worked for the most part (reducing the number of scoring units he had and keeping mine alive to hold quarters), except I ended up one model short of killing his vessel (which should of happened statistically.) Once the thirster popped out on his terms, it waded into the squads that shot up the unit the vessel was in. Then the multiple squads failing at once kind of sucked too. I still came out on top in that game since I had more quarters. However anything with 2 legs and a heartbeat was dead.... Capt K

The secret to kill this list is to take out the defilers and the vessel unit ASAP. Everything else is a piece of cake! Sucka! Capt K

Yeah, but if they are hidden well.....look out. For you I'd be more worried about the thirster. It isn't so bad out of combat, but in combat....ugh....I hate those things. Capt K

At least you have stuff that can wound it in cc.
But, to disprove my point, In that game last week againts the Chaos marines, after his daemon prince massacred and flew towards my shas'o, he charged it but failed to kill it. Typical to my rolling, the shas'o killed the daemon prince.

Some things I've learned from playing Word Bearers and just in general for Chaos.

The Lord doesn't need the CCW. The bike gives him the +1 attack and he can't use a 2nd ccw. No big deal here. He doesn't have a personal icon which is a big deal however.

EDIT: I see after typing the vessel for the BT is in the Rhino. Now, I'm really unsure what the purpose of your bikes are. No upgrades, but have the ability (w/ Move Through Cover) to set up for perfect demon delivery system. You've got an AC with no upgrades and a Lord who's got the Dark Blade, but not at S8, so no insta kill.

The Rhino with an Icon in it: not sure how viable this is. Sure, you've got two Defilers, but they will most likely be out of LOS to static big guns and the Rhino likely will get shot at.

Demonettes, while good, are hard to be reliable at 6 strong. Plus, they HAVE to reach assault the turn they come out. Heck, I've even used crap powers like Eldritch Storm to great effect against Demonettes. Definitely put an Icon in the bike squad and the Lord.

How's this played for you? I've played Word Bearers for about 3 years ago, but my list looks a bit different. Curious to see how your's fared. My critiques are obviously based on local play, so your area my be very different and you may get different results.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

Just a quick note - if your lord has the Dark Blade and is on a bike, he doesn't need and in fact can't use the close combat weapon you've given him - he needs one hand to steer the bike!

It is tiny, but once the daemons get in there you should be doing pretty good. You just have to worry about them getting there in one piece, and coming in where and when you want them. Plus those two defilers are nasty. Looks like a pretty good WB army. Oh, if only the Keeper of Secrets had wings!

Thanks for the help, here is a short report from Saturday. I played Me_Person's Mech Tau in a Gladiator Mission. The unfortunate thing about Me_Person, is that you cannot kill his skimmers, especially his hammerhead. Deamonettes needing two 6's in a row doesn't help. It also doesn't help that there is no assaults to hid in because everything is in transports or has Jump packs. Still I put up a good fight, and the Blood Thirster killed alot as usual. My mistake was putting the Defilers in positions that they counld be hurt to easilly. I am sure, if I made a few better choices the game would have been closer. I had a second game against a sick Undivided list (which I am still questioning the points spent, but oh well) That was another loss. This list works great against any list that doesn't have skimmers. Niow to address some comments:

The Lord - the extra CCW is an Army Builder thing, I have heard it both ways, but I am not gaining anything and I loss 1 point. No biggie. The Dark Blade gets me to Str. 6, so I can still wound MEQ's easily. I need to keep him as cheap as possible, so far he hasn't done any big thing in games I have played. If anybody has a better idea for a cheap HQ, I would much appriciate it.

The bikes - I need to get a Meltagun in this sqaud. The squad is supposed to be a distraction and has worked well as such. Turbo boast and your enemy is still spending a turn trying to stop them.

The Rhino squad - has worked out extremely well. Against the Tau, it boasted towards a objective and the blood thirster ran out and almost took a flank, if there was only more turns.

By the way Escalation sucks and it the stupidest rule in the history of Games Workshop and Wargaming in general. Just so you know.
