I'm short of $$ atm and i'm desperate to get my hands on this absurdly priced model (yes yes, i know they're cheaper alternatives). I'll have the money flowing in in about a week or so and I feel like it will have sold out by then.

Basically, do you guys think Smaug will be released again after this 2nd batch?

Well, it's listed as 'temporarily out of stock', rather than no longer available, so I guess we might see one more round. The demand is clearly there, and as long as it is GW know just how much money they can make per batch.

Yeah I figured they kind of covered themselves legally by saying: "We have another 500 Webstore Exclusive Smaug™ miniatures available - the last batch sold out in minutes, so act now to avoid missing out!" Not: "We will NEVER SELL THIS MODEL AGAIN" Which means it's an option to just keep on selling them. Maybe they'll even lower the price?

One can hope, I guess.

Regions are typically stocked/allocated differently. It's possible Smaug might be a slight exception...since he's such a large unique model. On the other hand, considering all the shipping and red tape for AU/NZ they might have done things differently for the ones they sent down under...who knows?

If they weren't making any more it would say "No longer available".

Attempting a penetration of the mysteries of GW's marketing practices seems as if GW takes its mythology of the world of 40K too seriously, and that they have established an inquisition to control who has access to the information of what will be produced and where.
