Firstly, let me say I'm no totally wised up on the latest rules as I've been out the loop for a little while, so If I happen to say something stupid forgive me.

Anyway, Chaos Chosen seem like a really good idea, I love the idea of a versatile 'honour guard' for Chaos space marines. But the problem is that they seem to be very similar to regular chaos space marines, after all they still die in the same way.

So really, what I want to know is this: does anyone know any good tactics for Chosen? Perhaps you know how to unlock their potential or know some killer wargear combos. Any feedback would be great!

Theyre more akin to sternguard than anything else. Being able to take a bunch of special weapons seems to be the best setup for them, though ive seen people kit them for close combat. Mark+icon of khorne, couple flamers and some power weapons+a fist in a land raider, led by Kharn. Dies like a wet noodle, but brings 5 str5 attacks each on the charge.

Using the Crimson Slaughter Supplement, make one squad of Chosen into Draznicht's ravagers which grants the squad PE and then give the squad as much plasma as possible.

Gods? There are no gods. Merely existences, obstacles to overcome.

Well, man, chosen haven't been good since the last codex, so you've been out of the loop a really long time, lol. They are overpriced for what they do. They can be really good at everything, but they're really expensive, and a marked marine or havoc squad can pretty much do what they can do. They used to get infiltrate which let them get up close a lot more easily where their enhanced loadouts could be put to good use. Now, they're just kind of meh. They can be a force to be reckoned with in smaller games where their ability to have such varied weaponry as to kill anything they run into can be a benefit, but in larger games you'll just see them get blown off the table ASAP. Honestly, I think you're better off going with raptors if you want things killed in close range, or havocs if you want to just blow the world up.

They still get infiltrate with the cypher formation.
The fact that you can get 5 specs + 1 combi is amazing but can get silly expensive.
CSM with bolters, bp and ccw cost 15pts each, so realistically you will be paying 3pts per marine for infiltrate, +1 attack and the option of more spec weapons. Plus you don't pay the 10pt champion tax. (Although I suppose you could consider the forced bolter/bp/ccw a tax).
Therefore in the cypher formation they are between ok and good, they become good if you support them with extra infiltrating units via huron, or units catapulted forward by an escape hatch, or Lords in spawn units moving quickly forward.
The fact that cypher also grants shrouded, hit and run and 2 extra bs10 plasma shots is great.

I know the points cost would be ridiculous, but I kind of want to take:
9 Chosen
Champ with Powersword
2 Poweraxes
1 Powerfist

I like chaos chosen. They can be effective at what they do. But the rule of thumb is not to overinvest.

They're great as retinue to your choppy indep in a landraider. Got Kharn? Well, why not take a bunch of khornate chosen with a couple of meltas and a hidden powerfist? The guyz will not be much more expensive than regular marines and will be able to get extra meltas that don't take away a bonus attack.

Crymson slaughter chosen with preferred enemy and a hell ton of plazma. Work great with infiltrate from Huron/Ahriman. As they get a WT to infiltrate d3 units, you often count on one prime squad to infiltrate - like a blob of 20 marines. If you get something extra, a rhino of plazma-chosen is a good choice. Or they can be the prime if you feel you can't effectively infiltrate 20 marines.

Cypher formation chosen with something like a few meltas and probably a hidden fist. They need threat overload to work.

The thing with chosen is that they get bad reputation. Partially due to starter chosen with a horrible loadout - lots of special mellee weapons that make them too expensive for what they can do. And personally, i don't find lightning claws and maces so great on chosen. I'd rather have an extra stock guy than a situational LC guy. Or a power fist. And partially due to them not being a strictly point and click unit.
