Any Dakka members into model railroading (HO scale)? I had a small setup many years ago when I was in high school and want to get back into the hobby. Looking for suggestions on good model railroad forums and reliable online stores.
I am into model railways I have some N and 00 scale if your looking to get back into the hobby, you may want to have a look at the magazine Model Railroader and it's web site
Nscale is best becaise you ge a mix of trrain varity reasonable price and scale.
Any smaller and the trains lose too much detail, much larger and thre proportions become to skewed. HO/00 is popular but declining in popularity due to cost. I would recommend N guage to strt.
N gauge is also good for some miniatures game, notably Dropzone Commander. If you build an N guage layout it can double duty as a gaming table.
The alternative is to supersize to guage 1 and lay track outdoors,
n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.
It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.

Same as mine. He converted the backroom of my garage (6 car garage) into his little (HO) railroad empire.......Yes I ran 40K battles on it

I had an O scale layout for a while, mostly just for the holidays, but I eventually sold it all because it took up way too much space. Some day I'd like to get into N scale just because i figure I can do more with less space. If only I had the time, and money.
I'm lucky that I have a really great train shop nearby, they've been around for decades, it's fun seeing all the really old stuff and really new stuff together. I can go in there thinking I'll buy some flock for my bases and the next thing I know it's like 4 hours later.
combine it.
Terrain making for miniature games and railroad. (HO and bigger...)
It don't take too much place if you start with something like pizza layout.
Spoiler:
This is from starter set (1 locomotive+3 freight cars)
It gets more terrain (one time in future...)

I got an HO scale railway set for my 10th birthday. It was fun to play with. Nowadays I use the terrain as board for my miniatures.
