I've been thinking about what to bring to the next tournament, and was wondering what feedback you all would have on this list.
Corran Horn - PTL, R2-D2, FCS
Wedge Antilles - Swarm Tactics
Gold Squadron Pilot - R3-A2, BTL/A4 title, Ion Cannon Turret
The strategy is pretty obvious, let the Warthog Y Wing drop stress and ion to take ships out of the game, Corran and Wedge are both strong offensive ships, and Corran is about as good an endgame option as there is. The only piece I'm not sure about is Swarm Tactics on Wedge, not sure I want to tie him down by making him stay close to the Y Wing. I have also been thinking about Lone Wolf instead of Swarm Tactics, to add some punch and some survivability to Wedge. All feedback is appreciated, let me know if there are obvious things that I've missed.

Not to sure about BTL on the Y. While it may be useful to clear Focus or Evades off the target before shooting the Ion, you may need the 360 arc on the turret to make up for the low PS + lack of maneuverability on a Gold Y (though you lose the stress-bot out of arc...but better than having no shots at all).
A bomb on the Y may also be nice. Go nose on, Ion the guy, then dump a bomb right in front of him as you do a 3-move or K-Turn to clear out (assuming you don't hit the stress-bot that turn). But your list is already maxing out on points.
Your list really has 3 very different ships with 2 of them being the linchpin you build a list around with other ships supporting or being supported by the main character. In your list its 3 ships all doing their own thing. That gives me the option to decide who's most dangerous and focus on him first.
If your up against dual IG/Falcon/big ships your Y is only half as effective (2 Ions for effect) I can likely ignore him for a few turns. Same with Horn. Once he's dumped his 2nd shot I know I can safely get in range 1 and pound him with impunity. Especially if I see your doing the unimaginative K-Turn to set up your next double-shot. If your at loner range I can take advantage of Wedges 2 Agility to try and snipe him out before range closes.

The goal with the Y Wing is to get use the BTL title to get two shots off, dumping two stress on the target. Most of the big ships out there rely on their action economy to be effective. If I make them spend two turns to get their actions back, I'm pretty happy. Even if they don't need to take a one forward move.
Same with Horn. Once he's dumped his 2nd shot I know I can safely get in range 1 and pound him with impunity. Especially if I see your doing the unimaginative K-Turn to set up your next double-shot.
Wouldn't be K Turning with Horn. He will usually be using a green maneuver to trigger R2's ability and shed his stress from PTL. Honestly, I think his ability to regen shields is his biggest factor. More I think about it, he should have EU to become an arc dodger with Boost + Barrel Roll
If your at loner range I can take advantage of Wedges 2 Agility to try and snipe him out before range closes.
Wedge is definitely a glass cannon, but my hope is that if he is targeted down, Corran Horn lives that much longer. The later the game goes, the more meaningful the regen from R2D2 becomes.

OP: this is a pretty good list. I've been having a lot of success with a very similar one (trade Wedge for Biggs and a seismic charge to get engine upgrade on Corran). Biggs keeps the y-wing alive, Corran flanks and forces the other player to choose between death by stress and death by Corran. EU is definitely an important part of making Corran work, it helps to compensate for your lack of green 90* turns and improves your arc dodging ability significantly.

I think you're kind of misunderstanding how the R3-A2 warthog works. The whole point is to use the A4 title to put two stress per turn on a target, quickly crippling it and setting up a kill shot from your other ships. The occasional ion token or damage card is just a nice bonus. So anything that reduces the power of R3-A2 is missing the point and a really bad idea.
If your up against dual IG/Falcon/big ships your Y is only half as effective (2 Ions for effect) I can likely ignore him for a few turns.
And then you lose the game. Your big ship ends up with a Tycho-like pile of stress on it, never takes an action or k-turns again, and becomes a useless paperweight until Corran removes it from the table. Or the y-wing locks your big ship down with stress and keeps it from contributing much while Corran and the third ship kill your escorts, giving you an endgame of Han vs. Corran that Corran wins 99% of the time.
Same with Horn. Once he's dumped his 2nd shot I know I can safely get in range 1 and pound him with impunity. Especially if I see your doing the unimaginative K-Turn to set up your next double-shot.
And you're definitely misunderstanding how Corran works. The double tap is something you use when you get the right opportunity, not an every-shot ability. You double tap when your shot at the end of the turn is better than the one you're expecting to get next turn. Otherwise you save your shot for next turn. So this means that most of the time Corran is shooting twice in one of two situations:
1) The double tap is likely to finish off a ship, in which case being able to shoot at Corran safely is small compensation for the fact that you just lost a ship.
2) Corran is not going to have a good shot next turn, in which case you already knew that Corran wasn't going to shoot at you and you were going to move to range 1 anyway.
And in either case "move to range 1 and pound him" is easier said than done. Once Corran double taps his player knows that it's time to start arc dodging and/or turtle with focus + evade. Most of the time Corarn's second shot happens at range 1-2, so an aggressive move to kill him puts you in significant danger of overshooting and having to watch as Corran flies past you and out of arc (or bumps you and keeps you from shooting). Corran is only going to k-turn to set up a shot if his player is confident that you can't set up a range-1 kill shot on him as a result.

Does Corran by himself pack enough punch to keep you in it? The reason I liked Wedge was his offensive slant. It seems like this build is already pretty defensive with Corran regening shields. If I drop Swarm Tactics and FCS, I can still fit the Engine Upgrade. And if the Y Wing gets targeted down because there is no Biggs, it should still get a couple of rounds of double stress out there, while allowing Wedge and Horn to do some serious damage. Obviously, I'm theory crafting. Sounds like you've seen this on the table plenty of times. Also, PS 9 is nice to have.

Just fly him carefully. I've removed Corran from the board on a couple of occasions with 1-2 rounds of shooting.
Him landing on an asteroid will throw your game. (That'd be the 1 round of shooting- Deci and Firespray ate him)

For sure, I've modified it to add Engine Upgrade on Corran so he can stay in some good positions. I'm pretty confident in my ability to stay off asteroids, but I can see one round of action denial being a huge issue for him.

No, but you don't have Corran by himself. Despite some people thinking of Biggs as nothing more than an extra 5 HP for whatever ship you're protecting he's still an x-wing, and the y-wing will do some damage. All you're losing in the trade is Wedge's ability and PS 9, and having that y-wing alive for more turns of action denial will probably give you more damage overall than a turn or two of -1 agility shots from one ship.
If I drop Swarm Tactics and FCS, I can still fit the Engine Upgrade.
Losing ST is no big deal, but losing FCS is. FCS on Corran gives your list more firepower than the difference between Wedge and Biggs.
And if the Y Wing gets targeted down because there is no Biggs, it should still get a couple of rounds of double stress out there, while allowing Wedge and Horn to do some serious damage.
Without Biggs you're getting one round, maybe two if you're lucky. And one of those rounds is likely to be at range 3 where you can't get the second stress. That's annoying, but not crippling. Adding Biggs gives you at least another 1-2 turns of stress, which is the difference between "I have to do a green maneuver next turn" and 1-2 ships never getting their actions back before they die.

True, he is still throwing down 3 attack dice, plus some Y Wing shots will be getting through. I've got some practice games set up for this weekend, I'm excited to see how this works out on the table. I'll play around with a few variations to see what fits best for me. I really like the idea behind the "Warthog" Y Wing, and Corran seems like a strong compliment to it.
Last question I have on your build is about the seismic charge...how often does it work out for you? It seems like a PS 2 ship wouldn't be the best place for it, since many popular ships out there would be able to avoid it with boosts and barrel rolls. Not sure where else you would put those two points though.

This is the reason. It was either a 2-point initiative bid, upgrade the y-wing to PS 4 (not all that useful), or add a bomb. It occasionally does some damage, especially if you get lucky with the ion cannon, and even when it doesn't the threat of dropping it can force people to pick maneuvers they aren't really happy with. Also, boosting and barrel rolling out of it requires actions, which is hard to do if you just got double-stressed. But in general it's just a "last two points" thing and you shouldn't expect too much out of it.

That's kind of what I figured. Seems like it can be useful if you get a target with ion, otherwise it still serves a role for area denial.
Can't wait to hit the table with this!
