As we all know 7th Edition now allows the use of Titans as a LoW choice. Fellow Titan owners such as myself are surely delighted at the prospect of being able to use these great models more often. However, I for one do feel rather guilty at such a thought due to the "mixed" reception towards Destroyer weapons.

From a rules point, it makes no sense why one would pick a Vulcan Bolter or Inferno Gun over a Twin Turbo Laser for example, as shown below.

Vulcan - R60" S6 Ap3, Heavy 15
Inferno - R12" S7 Ap3, Heavy 1, Hellstorm, Torrent,
Turbo - R72" SD Ap2, Heavy 2, 5" Blast, Destroyer

As you can see the Turbo Laser outclasses the other two on pretty much every case, and while I haven't included the Plasma Blaster, it's hard to understand why anyone would take anything other than Turbos. Perhaps against Flyers the Vulcan has an advantage but S6 isn't going to do much without Skyfire.

I had a case of this myself: I bought a Reaver back when Destroyer weapons were much more balanced, with 2x Laser Blasters and the Vortex Missile. This meant 6x 5" Blasts and one single-shot Vortex 10" Blast. When the rules for Destroyer were changed I'm very reluctant to use it now as it seems to reek of powergaming.

So here's what I propose for Titans:

Titans are bought in two packages: The Titan itself, and any weapon systems. The actual Titan would be considerably cheaper than it is now, but the different weapons would take it up to roughly the price it is now, more if Destroyer is used. This would hopefully make one think harder before just going "YAY, all Destroyer weapons everywhere!!!!!111!!!".

Here's a quick example:

Warhound Titan - 500pts
AV14/14/13 HP9
2 Void Shields
Super Heavy Walker

Rest is usual, nothing changed, etc

Options
Must take two of the following weapon systems:

- Vulcan Mega Bolter - 50pts each
- Inferno Gun - 75pts each
- Plasma Blastgun - 125pts each
- Twin Turbo Laser - 200pts each

As you can see this drives up the price for Destroyer weapons pretty quickly. My Warhound for example would cost 700pts with it's Inferno and Plasma, yet one with 2x Twin Turbos would be getting closer to 900pts.

This is just an example and obviously the points should be tweaked a bit, but I think the point I'm making is pretty clear: Perhaps we're coming across completly wrong on Destroyer weapons. Instead of fixing the weapons we can change the platforms, make them more expensive etc.

Thoughts?
