Just wondering what type of ships would Inquisitors use as their personal transports/ yachts.

Are they converted Imperial Navy destroyers/ corvettes like - http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Fast_Clipper
or a class of miniature Black Ships for Inquisitorial Use?

I know there's probably a lot of variance due to the independent nature of Inquisitors and some may simply commandeer any ship they desire but surely there must be standardized equipment for new or low ranking Inquisitors. Also, an organization as arrogant and egotistical as the Inquisition wouldn't just rely on converted or commandeered tech; I can't imagine them not having their own 'elite' group of ships even only as status symbols.

I know about Amberley Vail's Inquisitorial Yacht but there's not much information about its ship type, size or capabilities.
Are there any other examples of personal Inquisitorial ships?

Thanks

Most Inquisitors will just use whatever is convenient. Passenger liners, hitching a ride with a navy ship going in the right direction and so on. Some of them may be the "knock down doors and wave about identification" type of investigator but many prefer to not make noise until they've gathered evidence. Arriving on a personal warship is making noise.

Eisenhorn, even if he was already powerful, preferred a personal gun cutter for in-system transport and hired warp transport. Draco in the Inquisition War books had a small warp-capable ship as part of his cover. A courier ship for transporting extremely valuable small cargoes, and him posing as an incredibly wealthy merchant.

Inquisitors don't have rank per say. By the time an inquisitor has moved from being an interrogator to a full inquisitor, they should have a fairly substantial list of connections and resources to pull from. There is no standardized anything when it comes to the Inquisition. Certain inquisitors who focus on similar targets and who follow similar philosophies may end up using similar equipment, but that's the closest you're going to get.

Afaik they just hitch a ride on whatever is convenient. I don't think they are going to just give every little greenhorn inquisitor an entire spaceship. Warp-capable spaceships in 40k are ancient and highly valuable relics. Inquisitors are not all that powerful on their own, they rely on cooperation with other Imperial authorities to do their job.

The Inquisitor who hunts the Soul Drinkers in their first novel owns a giant invisible ship that is shaped like a bat, and is a command ship for hundreds of attack ships that are also shaped like bats. Forgeworld made an inquisitorial ship for BFG that was darn small for BFG, but obviously much bigger than a Manta.

Obviously you can find people to tell you that Inquisitors are all-powerful and grandiose enough to have expensive ships and elite ships, but I think that they probably find it much more effective, and much more of a power trip, to not use their personal ships because that helps them do their jobs. If they are on a navy flag ship, they can spend a lot more time interrogating people. Their jobs are usually to investigate humans, humans who are possessed, xenos who have been terrorizing humans and encountered by humans, humans who are seceding, humans who are suborning their offices. All the people they have to speak to are usually naval officers or cardinals or rogue traders who have witnessed suspicious activity, and the Inquisition need to spend warp travel asking them questions and planning with them and those guys' subordinates how to deal with the xenos collaborating psyker apostates once they get where they are going.

It's also possible they need to sit alone in inner sanctums, steepling their fingers, and sweeping through dim corridors lined with cells. However, I think it is all around better for Inquisitors to commandeer quarters on battle fleets, since that gives them more access to information and better control over their allies.

on the road to nowhere

Inqusistors use whatever the zog they want. This is same about means of transport, wargear, companions, working methods, etc.
Someone like Karamazov uses big'n'stompy things and carry armies on their ships, some stealthy gits from Ordo Hereticus may use small fast ships that are easy to hide...

BTW, the Bludflagg's phrase "Dem Inquisishun humies can't be trusted any further dan day can be thrown" is wrong; it's vice versa, light humies can be thrown quite far and they tend to be cunning as Mork. And 'eavy gits usually use might rather than low cunning to fight for Emperor

One should also take into account that inquisitors can declare exterminatus. With that in mind, are all military ships capable of exterminatus which can be called upon by the inquisition or would an inquisitor maintain their own fleet for these purposes?

avoiding the lorax on Crion

Depends on there own preferences, some may favour a ship and have a rather close and mutually beneficial relationship with a trader or rougue trader who acts as there long range transport.

Acquiring a warp capable craft is well within the relm of there powers and resources, powerful ones could afford the cost and crew requirements they entail. Especially if there backed by a larger group or such of the inquisition.

I mean not just some green horn newly promoted but a veteran who might control a entire sectors of inquisorial rescorces and them having a starship in there arsenal is well within reason.

And not every ship ois equal they can range from slow cargo ships, rusty, scarred and worn out to flying golden cathedral's packed with guns and a match for battleship's.

The smallest warp capable is about 1km, a fast warship iirc.

Any ship with torpedo tubes can be outfitted for Exterminatus. That said, an Inquisitor may have to wait months for their Exterminatus order to be carried out if there are no suitable naval assets in the area.
