So, I am going to start a new ork army and am set on doing them up as soviets. However there are some things that I would like to hear the communities opinions and if anyone has any suggestions or knows anywhere that I didnt look for things like head swaps, that would be awesome =D.

I was planning on starting with Kromlech greatcoat squads and doing head swaps for their soviet heads (I also ordered some from spellcrow and puppetwars). I also have models for deffkoptas already figured out, however that leaves me with having to figure out how to get some decent looking bikers and trukks going. I was thinking of doing the orks as blue skinned instead of green skinned.

Any suggestions for the bikes or trukks? Thoughts on doing them with blue skin? If I use blue skin, thoughts on what to base them as? Ice bases perhaps for cold siberia?

If you really want the soviet theme, then you perhaps should use 1:35 or 1:48 soviet truck kits, converting them to look more orky and to match the dimensions of standard GW ork trukks. Or if you're a good converter, maybe convert the GW trukks to look more like soviet trucks?

As for bikes, how about Cossack-style riders, using Boar Boyz?

Personally not a huge fan of blue ork skin, unless there are a zillion green ork armies in your area and you want to look different.

Snowy bases could certainly work for a soviet theme army.

I think the Forgeworld closed cab Ork Trukk already looks fairly similar to many soviet trucks such as Ural or Zil.

And like already suggested, getting scale model kits of the above Soviet trucks and orkifying them would also work well.
