I am new to Warhammer though not new to 40k. I picked up the first new book in the AoS line and it's pretty darned good. Decent characters much more relatable to than Space Marines...love Ionus the cryptlord! Even the chaos characters were intriguing. There was even a point when I was moved by the the Sigmarites first contact with the humans they were sent to save...really well written. I would recommend it to anyone on the fence about the new game!

Really enjoying this war against chaos trajectory of the fluff.

Gotta say it was enough to get me to buy the starter set and I've never owned a WHFB mini.

Interesting - I am an avid reader and collector of the old Warhammer novels - but the price of their hardbacks novelettes is pretty steep.

Indeed. Chris Wraight is a pretty good writer - I liked the space wolf book he did, which struck a nice balance between the old Wolfblade warriors three/space vikings feel and the Horus Heresy Vylka Fenryka, who are just hypocritical tools most of the time.

The Stormcast having some actual personality is nice. The fact that they (or at least Vandus, but I see no reason for him to be unique) can remove their helmets is an important detail.

I liked the book. Slightly annoyed that it's such an inconclusive ending, but I quess that's the point of it.

I'm a big fan of 'multiverse fantasy' because I first started with the Michael Moorcock stuff, and anything which pulls more of that through is a good thing in my brain.

Do we get an sense of the world they come from / inhabit - it seems to have a very Asgardian feel - are there nromal /civilians living there or are they just (male) heroes?

I really enjoyed CW's Iron Hands novel - pretty brutal that one.

Read the sample on iBooks and it seemed utterly terrible to me. YMMV of course.

I'm really intrigued about the new world, but I can't bear to thumb through a black library novel for it.

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)
