Finished initial assembly on my Warhound Titan. It stands decently on its own, as long as no one gives a heavy bump to the table. Due to the many joints and sections to his legs, final assembly ended up being a bit front heavy. Widest points with the feet is about 8 inches. Would probably want a minimum of 9" to be safe.

And is that to big of a base? Is it highly probable that every game he was used in would have difficulties with terrain and positioning? So Should I do two small bases just for the feet, one large base, or just live with him never facing perfectly forward?

I'd stick him on a giant base. Last thing you want is someone to knock the table and it get damaged. You could even design it so there is room for infantry to sit underneath it.

I've done both kinds of customers - Warhound with and without bases. And I think that a removable base works best. So it's more like a presentation base for when the fella sits on your shelf, but for gaming I would take it off the base. It's just so much easier to handle during games and it's not such a great sight if you've got a huge base for your titan which doesn't fit the table.

Aye, removable base with bolts or somesuch. Remember if that thing face-plants, it's going to take more than itself down as well.

I cut a piece of perspex into an oval for mine. Then painted it to match the rest of my bases. If you're worried about it not matching the table, just leave the perspex clear

Thank you for the feedback. =)

If you do put it on a base, you're going to restrict its mobility - you'll need an area the size of that base to put it down.

I've seen ones where there's a smaller base under each foot, which aids stability without taking up half the table.

You could probably sort out his balance issues by adding some weight under his feet. Fishing weights can be useful for that sort of thing, you can also get rolls of lead for roofing, which is easy to shape and cut. That way he could be stable without having to increase his footprint. (though obviously it will make your bag heavier).

EDIT: should probably mention, just in case, that lead is slightly poisons. So you should wash your hands after working with it, and cover it in plenty of paint and varnish so you aren't touching it all the time.

I think i will go with the free standing, with a storage display base. As I would like to bring him out to play often. Bought some lead pellets, will try to hollow out a nice cavity in the titans feet. Should be able to drill up into his legs a bit.

Vehicle Explodes roll!

I would definitely base it to give it stability. It's a cool enough model that everyone else will play around the limitations of the base. You could always make a base that is suitable for other models to sit on, too, and the suggestion of being able to fasten it to the base with bolts is a great one.

Yeah, that's been on my mind very recently.

Mate of mine bought one of these on Friday. He's a very amateur modeller, and a very lovely player, so I said I'd assemble it for him.
Because... basically I don't want it falling on my army. It's a heavy bugger and if it rocked over or dropped a gun on my fellas, or what have you, I may just stop smiling.

I've heard from a couple people that for gaming the best bet is to use snow shoes. Use CDs for the bases, three under each foot. Adds a lot of stability and its not too much base.

Sounds sensible. In my experience Warhounds stand pretty well on their own, but you never know how it's posed and such.
