So I had a few hours free today and I ended up looting a DE raider I had laying around, flash gitz style. I'm pretty pleased with it but now I kinda need some input on how you'd go about running it. Heres where I'm at:

-I'd like it to be a battlewagon although I realize the footprint is much smaller. Any ideas on making this work for my opponents so it doesn't come off as 'modelling for advantage'?

-I could run it as a looted wagon. In theme although not nearly as durable. afaik there really isn't any rules on what exactly constitutes a looted wagon is there?

-Other.. Please share any other ideas or suggestions you may have and thanks.

Edit- heres some pics to help this along:

There are rules for a looted wagon; as far as models go whatever you want is fine.

For your first question rule of cool usually trumps cries of mfa. If it looks cool and orky no one will care that it is smaller than a std bw. Just so long as you don't try to claim it as a fast skimmer.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

Hmmm hadn't thought of that and its probably appropriate. That said it wouldn't be on the battlefield very long as a trukk.

Ok good I didn't think there were actual orkish guidelines for looting. I agree on rule of cool, any ideas on how I could avoid benefiting from the size or maybe something to offset? It looks like a skimmer but wouldn't be played as such btw.

More orky panels and plates. If I still had my old bitz box I would probably drop some in the mail for you but alas the toddler got to it while I wasn't home.

A platform behind the outrigger big shootas would be a good idea too; the rest would just be paintjob.

Oh, and if you can swing it grots scrambling about. If you know anyone with a stompa they have some great grots hanging by a hand with a hammer and some others. Also the biker nob pole has a grot hanging on for dear life while the bike is supposed to be moving fast; that on the back would be cool.

I would run it as either a Trukk (Fast transport, fits the Raider) or a Looted Wagon (for obvious reasons)
Also; Great idea!

Could also run it as a Warkopta (Fast, Open-topped, Skimmer)

The warkopta idea is great I'd forgotten about those, just looked them up. I think I'm either going that route or the looted wagon- maybe even rolling on irrational genius for jink.

I would say run it as either a looted wagon or a warkopta, I feel that the kopta would be more appropriate though.

Honest to god that was my thoughts when building it although I just described it as hopping. A clear base implies skimmer, I tried wheels but they were trash and I don't have spare tank treads so I needed something.. different. Glad you like it.

So I've really been delving the book after building this thing and I've come up with a strategy, well maybe even an archtype idk. I know this isn't the right place but allow me a smidgeon of latitude here and see what ya think about this..

Freebooterz!

The concept is a double CAD, orks/dread mob, and a sample list could look something like this at 1.5k LOOSELY:

dreadmob big mek- warlord, mega armour, killsaw, finkin kap (strategic, irrational genius) 95
with flash gitz, battlewagon- iwnd, 4 bs, kannon etc

bustas, lootas, nobz (plus obligatory spanna-shoota boyz and grots)

6 x single warkoptas- tl deffguns, bs

other stuff to taste.

The general idea is for the big mek to roll on strategic shooting for conqueror of cities but settling for night fight. His second roll would be on the irrational genius trait aiming for 'supa turbo-thrusta' which confers jink to the battlewagon.. and tada an entire pirate army of dakka and 3+ jinking assault vehicles!

Thanks brother! I can't wait to get some paint on it.

I think I'm sold on making it a warkopta btw fellas. Nobz I believe become halfway decent inside these things.

Consider say.. 5 with big choppas, eavy, kombi rokkits, ammo runts, banner. Add pain boss with klaw and hide it behind LoS blocking terrain, optimally. Your looking at 10 chances to hit with rokkits plus d3 twin linked deffgun shots plus the big shoota. Then assault with 20 ws5 s7 attacks and 4 s9 klaw attacks. Thats a solid unit outside of tournament scenes.

The flash gitz version would instead pack a twin linked rattler kannon for a whopping 30 potential shots and most twin linked for right at 200 pts. Its an orkish venom basically.

Only think I can suggest that hasn't might be to do a scenic base about the foot print of a trukk. At that point MFA goes out the window. A trukk with red paint job and rolling on irrational genius for jink would be sweet.

Heck If I played you in a friendly I would just give you that roll. Awesome idea.

I don't think RPJ actually works with this. The rules say "any ork vehicle" gets the +1 movement. I don't know if the looted raider technically counts as an ork vehicle.

The basis for the model does not matter; what matters is the rules being used. In this case the OP was askinh which ork vehicle rules he should base the model off of. The suggestions given have all invariably been Ork vehicles(battlewagon, trukk, looted wagon, etc) RPJ absolutely fits and functions for all those based on this design.

Thanks man, and that base is a great idea. When I get home I'll mess with a base and see what I can come up with.
