Is this worth it? It seems like a cheaper alternative to regular land speeders, but better. I mean it has the same stats but less options. However it can also deliver a squad of scouts which with the bump in WS & BS they received, seems like a pretty effective alternative to the tac squad + rhino set up. Opinions? I really want to field an all scout army, but am leary of spending the cash without some opinions on the LSS.

Storms are excellent in my experience. Scout, open topped, obsec and so on. They make for great compulsory choices or I imagine even all scout forces if your not going with say gladius for whatever reason..

It doesn’t have all the options of a normal speeder, and it’s open topped, so even more fragile.

Still worth it.

Open topped, in addition to making it explode spectacularly in a stiff wind, also lets you assault out (CC scouts) or shoot all the passengers (Bolter scout drive-bys)

The launcher with blind can be a nice trick, and the jammer can screw with people.

BS4 and dedicated transport fix some of their historical problems.

If you like scouts, grab one or two. The shouldn’t disappoint you.

I own one, and love the little guy. I’d consider buying another, time and budget allowing. I could definitely find a place in lists for a second. More then that and lists would start to look more 10th company then I’d like. Although, having a 10th company formation all mounted up could be a lot of fun...

Even if you are going Gladius, you need one formation in addition to the demi-co. The scout one is a very nice low cost option.

Good fast mobility for scouts but not hard to kill at all.

Use em smart. Hug cover and such if you can. Good way to get a scout team forward quickly though

Fast, but fragile.

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.

FudgeDumper - It could be that you are just so uncomfortable with the idea of your chapters primarch having his way with a docile tyranid spore cyst, that you must deny they have any feelings at all.

Since the Storm can Jink and still have all of its passengers fire at full BS, it is actually a bit more survivable than it seems. I take mine with a Heavy Flamer rather than a Heavy Bolter. One could definitely put an Assault Cannon or Multi-Melta on there (which are even better due to Scout and Infiltrate), but that many points on something a single heavy bolter shot can ruin is a non-starter for me. Honestly, I am looking at possibly retiring my Tactical Squads and replacing them with Scouts in Storms.

Thanks for the replies. I am considering an all 10th Company Formation Army. Right now at about 1000 points I have come up with a formation of all bikes using White Scar, one with snipers using Ultramarines, and one with CCW/pistols in LSS with Imperial Fist tactics. It would be a fairly expensive list to purchase which is why I wanted opinions on the LSS before I started buying any of it.

Bear in mind you need a mandatory HQ 2 Troop to field each Chapter Tactic right? If so that'll be more than 1000 Points to get what you want.

Actually, I think he’s OK. Each detachment/formation needs to have the same CT used within it. He’s going to have 3 separate formations. As they are not part of a larger formation (like the Gladius) I think he’s good.

As for the list, it might have some bad matchups, but that’s not unique to your list. But tight themes can be hard to make flexible TAC list

No AA, probably a little light on AV (although you do have space for a chunk of melta). CC could be rough, and heavy flamers are going to be your hard counter. Still, very fast, lot of tricks, could be fun, and would probably work in a friendly meta.

The LSS would have mm, the sniper squads would have missile launchers. The bikes would have one grenade launcher in each squad. At 1000 pts, it allows for three exact copy squads in each formation. So 3 exact same scout bike squads, sniper squads, and ccw lss squads. I know it might not be tournament competitive, but I think it would be fun for local tourneys. It also has Sgt. Telion with the snipers. Of course going to standard 1500 pt games adds more ability to flesh out and add a few more squads of the same preferably bikes and lls.
