So I'm not sure why I was exited for 40K open day, but I was. Now that it's come and gone I really feel disappointed. Not a lot announced, and some of what was announced was negative (some things were pushed back to February, only 2 primarchs a year, etc). All in all, I came away from this years open day less exited and more negative about the hobby in general.

What did you think?

Inquisitorial lesson #298: Why to Hate Choas Gods, cont'd-
With Chaos, Tzeench would probably turn your hands, feet and face into
scrotums, complete with appropriate nerve endings. Then Khorne would
force you and all your friends to fight to the death using your new
scrotal appendages. Once they get tired of that, you get tossed to
Slaanesh who <censored by order of the Inquisition>, until you finally
end up in Nurgle's clutches and he uses you as a loofah.

Did they announce when they plan to Sigmarize 40k so that we can finally write our own rules?

I really enjoyed it!

I don't go for the announcements, it's GW they are always cagey about future releases.

I go for the forums and to see the design team, painters, etc.

Two things disappointed me:

- Some organisational issues, such as the lack of any pictures of the leviathan dreadnought, a box was thrust at me with "this is a new type of dreadnought, like a siege contemptor" but no picture or real idea of what it was. Would have bought one if I'd realised. Also lack of working tills made the queues longer than usual or needed.

- The composition of the design team forum. I know I'm not necessarily speaking for everyone but I don't care about or like BL books, I find the general quality level very low. So combining the Citadel and BL 'teams' into one was not a winner for me and the two guys they put up were pretty low ranking, decent presenters but lacking the necessary gravitas. Last year when Phil Kelly and Jes Goodwin did it and it was Citadel it was a lot better.

On the plus side!

- Fascinating chat with Simon Egan about how he sculpts primarchs, a very impressive man with enormous skill but happy to talk and explain.

- The other Forgeworld designers who were extremely friendly and gave lots of opportunities to discuss their latest products and look at the redone Mymeara.

- The diaramas are great and having a good long look at them was worth a trip by itself.

- The painting team who were extremely illuminating on their approaches - water your paints and use a wet palette ladies and gents!

- A really pleasant chat with Jes Goodwin and the concept guys who could have been pretty jaded but he was very animated and enthusiastic. The highly amusing moment when I mentioned the new Eldar corsair list to Jes and he had a double take and looked at me like either a) I shouldn't know or b) he had no idea it was being brought out.

- As ever the staff at WW were friendly, eager to help and no hard sell.

All in all a great day, perhaps at the wrong stage of the release cycle so no really big releases and a big focus on HH rather than 40K. More of a FW day than a 40K day but I find the FW guys to be positive, happy to chat and generally great.
