I've heard it's more of a flavor thing but was just seeing which is more favorable. I'm leaningt towards grey knights because they look awesome and I've always been fond of terminators the only thing I worry about is they seem like mostly melee so I'm afraid of get wrecked by more ranged

Well you're in luck lol Terminators definitely suffer this edition due to either either volley of shots or lots of AP2 killing them outright. However, if you want to run Terminators, going Grey Knights is your best shot. Their Psychic Powers and ability to Deepstrike and Teleport around make up for their high point cost and short range on their weapons.

in 40k, you have a wide variety of terminators to choose from. The best imo is still Dark Angels, but they can no longer field an all-terminator army.

if you want to see ballscrushingly stupid ranged firepower from Terminators, take a look at the Horus Heresy series's Tyrant Siege Terminators or the Ultramarine knockoffs. They basically each (as in every single model) pack a cyclone missile launcher and can split fire (at least the tyrant versions). And they retain the ability to move and fire. This means a 5-man squad of these terminators can put out either 10 krak missiles or 10 frag missiles Per Turn, while on the move. And they can still shoot their bolters.

To answer the second response play style. Grey knights seem pretty fun to play and I've always favored the idea of a more elite army than just swarming a bunch of weak small guys. I had planned on playing khorne daemonkin because I have always thought csm looked cool but I can't stand kdk play style

So I have a friend playing dark angels and another playing skitarii how would grey knights do generally against them? We are far from being tournament players as we just started about a week ago lol

You might want to look into Space Wolves and their Champions of Fenris supplement. Lots of great terminator formations and bonuses. Also some of the best looking terminators around.

In Vanilla you can take bikes for troops and terminator for elites. Or you can ally with Grey Knights.
