I have a dark angels force and love the command squad and deathwing knights so i wanted to take some AM allies.

From all my AM / IG vets and dark angels players do you think its better going AM main with side dark angels or dark angel main with side AM

I know dark angels has the DW knights and rerollable FNP bike squads but what are the best thing to bring from AM/IG?

Do you think this is a good allied combo?

Its rerollable Jink saves, not FNP, which is a big difference.

But to anwser the heart of your question it is probably best to ally your DA in,

Azreal makes a great addition to an AM blob army and a meh addition to a DA force.

Alternatively run a ravenwing focused army with some AM troops to hold objectives with that sweet sweet object secured.

I mean the ravenwing command squad with apocathary

3+ rerollable cover. with FNP

Interesting that blob AM. Would this be better a backline support than their space marines? What part of AM best uses the ravenwing and DW knights.. Tank heavy or infantry or a mix of both?

Unless you want to run multiple veteran squads or lots of artillery then use IG as allies. It's sick how much you can cram into an IG allied detachment. Whereas if you want some of the best stuff from the DA codex it's best to have them primary.

Thanks gibblets. What would be the strongest IG allies to use with dark angels? A bunch of leman russes?

I think it will be useful to take some artillery. DA are good enough in delivering pinpoint damage but they will struggle if enemy just sits in the corner shooting some long-range and (or) LOS/cover-ignoring weapons bubblewrapped from your charge. IG can give you power to either clear that bubble-wrap or just destroy enemie's shooting platforms in first turn or two. If you have enough points left you can take new artillery formation from Mont'Ka book and make said artillery twin-linked _and_ "Ignores Cover!". Considering that you'll do it with multiple large 9/3 and 10/2 blasts your opponent will cry with bloody tears .

It always come down to what the core of your Dark Angles is. I assume you would be using a mix of bikes and terminators. If you take scouts or mechanized Tacs for your DAs you don't have to worry about allying in MechVets.

Some IG units that compliment an advancing type of DA list you'll be using would be : Hellhounds, Scions and empty Chimeras

IG units that fill gaps in your list, namely fire support and durability would be : Tank Commander, Manticore, 30+man blob, Vendettas.

From that list (without knowing your points limit and models) You could have:

Tank Commander
#2Tank
#3Tank

PCS w/Chimeras
Infantry Squad w/Chimera
Infantry Squad w/Chimera
Infantry Squad w/Chimera
Infantry Squad w/Chimera
Infantry Squad w/Chimera
You can keep the Chimeras empty and start the Infantry Squads as a blob

Heavy Weapons Squad
Heavy Weapons Squad
Heavy Weapons Squad
Heavy Weapons Squad
Heavy Weapons Squad

Special Weapon Squad
Special Weapon Squad
Special Weapon Squad

Conscripts

Temptestus Command Squad
Tempestus Scions
Tempestus Scions
Tempestus Scions
^Even these guys can take Chimeras

Hellhound Squadron or Vendetta Squadron

Manticore or 3xTanks

That's essentially the full list of options for your allied detachment.

The other Elite and Fast Attack choices are probably not going to contribute as much to your primary Detachment as the ones I listed with the exception of Sentinels. Really any Heavy Support choice I didn't list will still be good.
