Hey there!

How well does masking tape go with a regular brush?
I dont have an airbrush, but I want to paint some fancy patterns on my vehicles.
I fear that it might not go as well as planned and before I ruin my models I might as well get some advice first.

It works, just make sure the edges are pressed down. The issues I've had with it were too much over-thinned paint, or lifting edges of the tape.

I’ve done it. I don’t have an airbrush, so tape and a fuzzy stick were my only option. There was some seepage, but I was able to tidy that up with a (mostly) steady hand. I was using crappy old tape, probably would have gotten better results with something newer and dedicated to hobby work.

Here is a pre-cleaned up example:

I used it on my baneblade. Masked off all the areas of dark blue and sprayed space wolf grey from a can.
Worked pretty well

Masking tape and a brush seems superfluous.

Tape doesn't work when you have allot of paint touching it. Paint will bleed under the edge unless you are using a quite dry brush and dabbing down on to the tape edge toward the side you want paint. It's would almost be like stippling.

For a practical point of veiw it would be quicker and easier to paint the edge on with a detail brush the block out the colour with bigger brush.

I actually used to do it with permanent markers and a piece of plasticcard, then overpainted it again with a brush. Didnt look too Bad, but I was hoping I could save some time with the masking tape

Use Tamiya tape rather than standard masking tape.
