I found out last evening that we will be playing AoS in addition to the other games that we have been playing.

I have always loved the look of the Lizardmen and wanted to build an army of them and somehow use them in 40k: well that wasn't possible.

I now find myself with the ability to buy Lizardmen and actually put them on the table. My question is should I?

Is this a viable army to play? I like a friendly game but I also like to give my opponent a run for his/her money. I saw they have a new starter box out; is this a decent purchase?

Any and all advice welcomed.

The Start Collecting set is a great deal. It's the same price as the Carnosaur alone, so you basically get two free units on top of him. Plus, the fact you can make the Carnosaur to be two other monsters means if you ever expand the army, doubling up on the start collecting set works and you won't have character repeats.

It's definitely a viable army to play. The start collecting set is a great mix of foot warriors, cavalry and a big monster.

'Is it viable" is a non-existent problem in AoS unless you use some kind of comp system. Everything is viable as you can talk with your opponent about what would be reasonable to include in his army so yours doesn't end beaten up too quickly (which may be pointed as a problem ). If you're going to use a comp system check how many points is the GS box and if it suits you. If you're playing without comp just get whatever you like.

Go for it! Their Start Collecting! boxset is one of the best.

AoS is super fun, get the battletome for the lore and some scenarios to play - if you enjoy playing narratively with the scenarios in the battletome you can expand by buying the big books or getting more as micro-purchases from the AoS app (or converting your 40k scenarios!).

If you want to play a bit more competitively check out www.scrollbuilder.com for point values.

Play both styles from time to time too :-)

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

So using scrollbuilder I can make the following with two starter boxes:

http://bit.ly/20tayG7

If I am reading it right I have 80 wounds and 1387 points spent.

What should I add/subtract to have an all around pool to play with? Just the basics; I will add the neat stuff once we start playing and I know it is worth the investment.

Thanks,

Welcome. In Jaaaaaam.

What Bottle said - try some games out without points first. Play scenarios and have fun.

For terrain rules we simplify further by having each terrain piece be consistant. That way we don't forget what things do (i.e. roll for terrain in each sixth and add that one).

And always play scenarios.

Forget about the points. There is no points. You can field what you want and how much you want. There is no limit.

Start small and when you get use to it and like it, go larger.

The starter set for Lizard/Saurons I think is what they are called, is an excellent deal. You are paying for the caransaurous (spelling?) and getting the other 2 units for free.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

In fact, you don't need to meet the minimum(1 unit only).

I'm sure I read warscrolls say a minimum of X or whatever models you have if you don't meet the minimum.

But I can't find that now.

That Getting Started box has a custom formation that undoubtedly gets around that problem, if it is there. In general though, the minimum unit sizes are the same number of models that you get in the box; I'm not aware of any that break this rule. Some comp packs do alter that, but that will depend on the comp pack in question, and you'll need to see which system your local scene and tournaments prefer on that front.

model count, not unit count. there was nothing in the 4 pages of rules that say if you don't have the minimum number of models in a warscroll you can still bring them.

True, but on the index page for each warscroll set it says you can have ONE unit below minimum size.

Looks great! The only thing I would add is a Seraphon Wizard of some sort. Wizards seem really essential for Seraphon as summoning can play such a big role in games.
