In the doom of mymeara, a corsairs wasp walker is granted a 4+ re-rollable invulnerable save if it uses it's wasp jet pack in either the movement or assault phase.

My question is, if you use it in the assault phase, would you get the 4++ re-rollable against an overwatch attack?

It seems a bit cheesy to allow it as I don't believe you'd use the jet pack until rolling for charge distance and overwatch happens before that but, if you declare a charge and decide to use your wasp jet pack then have you 'used' the jetpack at that point, before overwatch and thus get the benefit of the re-roll vs overwatch?

Yes. This one is easy.

I only asked because nowhere does it state that you must declare you're using it - you just choose to and the action of actually using the wasp jump jets doesn't happen until after overwatch has been resolved.

Of course I'm happy if it does work this way!

I think it makes sense that declaring a charge is part of charging, so it should probably be at that point that a Jump unit should declare and be considered to be using their jump packs in the Assault phase.
