Hey guys ive never really taken allies but i might for a campaign. Do i have to take a CAD to take allies or can i take for expample the DA ravenwing detachment and an allied detachment of imperial fists

Any formation/CAD Allied detachment etc can be taken along side your primary detachment as allies.

Although it's worth pointing out that formations and detachments must follow their own special rules and requirements, so in the case of an Allied Detachment (as in the specific named type of detachment, not generally a detachment that is allied) you would not be able to take one with the same Faction as your Primary Detachment.
