So I have been playing around with CSM summoning lists and I have a question... What is the best way to do this? Since Malefic powers cause perils on any double if the caster is not Daemon, I have been using a Tzeentch DP to act as my main casting unit, while I add sorcerers to increase my warp charge and get more casts off. But surely there is a better way to do this, as a DP with a single sorcerer backing him up ends up costing at least 350 points? Am I better off just allying in KDK or Daemons?

If you're set on CSM, Crimson Slaughter has a relic that makes the bearer a Daemon. Prophet of the voices. He can only join Possessed, but no longer perils on any doubles.

Other than that, some allied Daemons would help. Tzeentch Herald ML3 and two units of 11 Horrors will get you 7 Warp Charges. Give your Herald a Exalted Reward, exchange that for the portalglyph and use that to summon Horrors. About 330ish points for the Herald and Horrors.

In imperial armour 13 there is a legacy that gets you rerolls on maelific powers , worth taking if you are maximising summoning.

also in the black legion supplement, you can pick up the last memory of yuranthos, , which you can use to boost your dp to ML4 (the extra power you get is ok too).

oh and in the new wulfen supplement, theres a daemon relic called paradox, give it to your herald, and you can gaurantee a successfull casting warp charge 3 on 5 dice.

I've tried different ways and the best way for CSM to summon daemons is ally in daemons and summon with them. Sorcs are too expensive and important to die from perils.

So I was looking in my daemon codex and I noticed that it said:

"Each -Primary- Detachment in your army can include up to four Heralds of Chaos..."

Does this mean I cannot take that many as an allied detachment, as it isn't my primary? How many heralds can I take in an allied detachment?

Ally daemons and get 2 heralds of tzeentch with 2 squads of horrors.

I guess the ITC made a ruling on it:

"When Chaos Daemons are taken as an allied detachment two Daemonic Heralds may still be taken as a single HQ selection."

In case anybody else was not clear.

The Daemon FAQ had made it extremely clear too (because it errataed "primary detachment" to just "detachment")

I had a 2k point list that uses Crimson Slaughter and Black Legion, two CADs that generated 15 warp charges for summoning, worked out pretty well. The tip is to indeed use a DP (I always go for Nurgle, 2++ Jink is better IMO than rerolling 1s) and Crimson Slaughter's prophet of the voices along with Arhiman and a squad of 1k Sons.
