I cannot find any rules anywhere to support this, though it does seem odd to me that your HQ guy would rather hang out in a simple lemon russ as opposed to setting up a comfy headquarters INSIDE THE MASSIVE TANK NEXT TO HIM! Seriously, increasing one of the big tanks BS from 3 to 4 would be REALLY nice!

At the same time, Lords of War in regular games are a separate, optional detachment, so...

This isn't really a tactiical discussion... Probably better in general.

There was some form of rules for baneblade commanders in an Imperial Armour book though. I think the only reason atm for having no baneblade commanders is that we do not have baneblade company formationns yet. So far we only have tank company formations, requiring a russ commander.

You can make a Baneblade (or its varients too I think) in an HQ but it couldn't do orders and all that Commander jazz. probably because all that came out before "Tank Commanders" and orders for them came to be.

Regiment: 91st Schrott Experimental Regiment
Regiment Planet: Schrott
Specialization: Salvaged, Heavily Modified, and/or Experimental Mechanized Units.
"SIR! Are you sure this will work!?"
"I HAVE NO IDEA, PULL THE TRIGGER!!!" 91st comms chatter.

Keep in mind that the baneblade will be a priority target as it is. All things with melts, armour bane, and tank hunter will be guNing for it to keep its existence short and minimal.

If you look up the rules for armoured company there is a hq choice that rides in a baneblade.

So what are the current rules for each type and option of baneblade? My understanding is Escalation has most of the basics, but then Mont'ka updated some of them; according to you guys, more options are also available in some of the apocalypse books as well.

I'm guessing the reason I cannot find everything for my army in a single codex tome is either laziness or another money ploy on GWs part?
