Hoo boy, I just know I'm gonna make several people here gnash their teeth and eat their own beards. It's been a LONG time since I've built a list for a 'real' army, and many of my choices are colored with the expectation of having to fight nothing but hordes of monstrous creatures. Not to mention, I'm trying to keep this list within the range of models I have available to me while having to build as few new ones as possible (you can see the 30k Militia I'm trying to carry over here:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/687711.page ).
My intent is to build an army centered around a Shadowsword (or similar super-heavy tank) to ITC standards (listed
HERE). I want to avoid blob guard as much as I reasonably can, and if changes need to be made (which I most certainly guess they will) I can try to provide some idea of what other models I have to pick from that still match the scheme of the rest of the army.
Anyway, the list is below, with sections in brackets describing what I plan to do with each unit, in case my decisions baffle people. I have not decided if the Tank or Lady Redcoat should be this army's warlord yet, so I'm very much open to suggestions there. I don't want to hand my opponent the easier victory point.
EDIT: Oh! I forgot to mention: I'm aiming for a take all comers list, if that helps narrow down the goal. Mostly playing marlstrom of war missions.
Lady Redcoat's Red Hat Brigade - 1849 Points
Lord of War
Shadowsword with 2 sets of sponsons - 555
[The backbone of the army. I intend to use this to lob shots down range and destroy deathstars and MC's, as well as heavy armor and rival superheavies]
Astra Militarum Section
HQ
Tank Command - 495
LR Vanq, Sponson
MM, Pintle H. stub, Commander
LRX,
HB, Sponson
HB, Pintle H .Stub
LRX,
HB, Sponson
HB, Pintle H .Stub
[These guys perform a similar role to the Shadowsword, but try to focus more on lighter armor and transports. I will usually be trying to commands to get the Vanquisher to fire at a different target while the Exterminators take on something more appropriate, maybe even fliers with twin-linked snap shots if I must]
3 Priests - 75
Troops
Vets - 105
Shotguns, 3x Melta, Krak Grenades, Grenadiers
+Attached Priest

Shotguns, 3x Melta, Krak Grenades, Grenadiers
+Attached Priest
[The vets are supposed to roam around the back field with the Shadowsword, holding objectives, deterring deep-strikers, and stymying close combat units. I put shotguns on them for two reasons: 1) I already have nearly 20 models in carapace armor with them and 2) I will be able to shoot and then charge. The priests are there to give them a little extra punch, and ensure they stay in combat for more than one round.]
Elites
Tempestus Platoon - 320
Tempestus Scion Squad - 160
+5 Scions, 2x Plasma Guns
Tempestus Scion Squad - 160
+5 Scions, 2x Plasma Guns
- Platoon held in reserve to Deep Strike
[The Storm troopers will Deep Strike along the back field or midfield to secure objectives or assassinate targets, using the Inquisitor's Servo Skulls if possible]
Inquisitorial Ally
Ordo Malleus Inquisitor (Lady Redcoat) - 89
Terminator Armor, Psycannon, 3 Servo Skulls
[She's here to provide servo skulls, and act as a nice, stubborn HQ. I'd consider deep striking her with the Storm Troopers, but she may make easy prey with them. I could also attach her to one of the veteran squads to provide a little extra fire support and break off if necessary.]
