Greetings people. Long time lurker, first time poster. LOL.

Just gotten back into 40k after a 20+ year no play. (sad I know).
Anyhow, bought the Dark Vengeance boxed set to get all the goodies going again. But I've got an issue. The Crimson Slaughter Paint scheme doesn't really float my boat.

So. My question is this:
Are there any other legions/chapters that people are painting these minis? (it's hard to work through all the info that is out there).

I've always liked the war band the 'Skulltakers'. The red and gunmetal/silver looks pretty cool and their doctrine of collecting skulls for khorne is gritty enough to do some awesome conversions.

Is there any other chapter/legion that people would reccommend??

Thanks in advance. Comments/Questions/Rants/Raves/Opinions welcomed.

Mine went Red Corsairs. But really, they can be painted however you like. They don't HAVE to be Crimson Slaughter, even if you're using the Crimson Slaughter supplement. Even in a single army, they can be painted differently. I have a handful of spare Chosen models so tested out some Black Legion, Death Guard and some skeletal damned sort

I don't think the CSM from DV have any specific iconography on them, so feel free to paint them up however you like.

I painted them up super nurgly and used the chosen as Nurgle aspiring champions. Converted the hellbrute a bit also made him slimy and green and cultists are cultists

Thanks for the replies guys!

Sounds like I might do some Skulltakers then.

I might even try a squad of another khorne or chaos undivided legion's colours.

Yes, the advantages of chaos is there are very few legion/warband specific rules, so you aren't really risking making the 'wrong choice' with your warband.

The second advantage is, unlike the dark angels, the chaos marines in the starter box have no specific iconography on them that would mark them out as belonging to any specific god or force.

As such you more or less have free reign to do whatever you desire with your models!

I have my own warband with green with gold trims. Those RW bikes I painted colors of emperor's children.

I ended up with two sets of Dark Vengeance Chaos space marines after trading with a friend. One set is being painted as Crimson Slaughter and the other will be Death Guard/Nurgle.
A quick Google search should give you some inspiration.

I've been playing a while, my first model was a lead marine and my first White Dwarf was bound with staples

Black Legion is a good scheme (black base with gold trim). Word Bearers (dark red with silver trim) or Iron Warriors (metallic silver with bronze or gold trim) are other Chaos Undivided legions you could go with.

Have a look at the fluff for the traitor legions, especially the stuff that dates back to the Pre-Heresy and into the Horus Heresy proper to get an idea for a Traitor Legion you might like. Otherwise just invent your own renegade warband and paint them however you want

DAMN! Those pics are awesome.

I hadn't realised there was so much lateral movement with the chaos warbands. That's wicked...

Very inspired but I think I'm going to have to research a gakload of fluff before making a final decision...

Skulltakers are a definite, but there seem to be so many other options!

Yeah... I have Red Corsairs. I'd post pictures but... My dog ate them. Totally ate the pictures and it's not all because mine look like crap.

Friggin talented people and their showing off...
